				Hello,

I will be having surgery at St. Vincents in LA in April. Since I am already deaf in 1 ear, this surgery will leave me completely deaf. After my last surgery, I got to have an extra stay in the hospital due to a CSF leak. During that time, I used the telephone in my hospital room to call my wife when she was over at Seton Hall and I wanted to talk to her (I also used it to call the 6th floor nurse station when my call button wouldn't work, but that is another story ;). Obviously that will not work when I am deaf, so we are hoping to be able to use cell phones to send text messages.

So...... has anyone used a cell phone from a 6th floor room?
Has anyone used a cell phone in Seton Hall?

 Thanks for sharing,

 Jeff

I was there in Jan. 07 and the cell phone worked fine. I didn't try to text messages but i'm sure it works too. Good luck! Ellis

				Hi Jeff,

I used my cell phone at Seton Hall and it worked fine. I didn't think about using it in the hosptial. Hope things go well for you. You'll be in my prayers.  Ann

Thank you all for your responses and encouragement. We will bring phones and use them if necessary. Hopefully, I'll get out in 72 hours like I did last time. But... this time I am praying for no CSF leak; that's when a phone would really come in handy.

Joe, I have looked at the Blackberry and it is pretty expensive (but I do have technolust for it ;)). I am not much of a traveler and wouldn't have need for it's capabilities. Unfortunately, I am purchasing other assistive devices and won't be getting a Blackberry soon.

 Thanks again,

 Jeff

I had my surgery at St Vincent's in November of 2005. My cell phone worked fine both in the hospital and at Seton Hall. Good luck to you.
