I need everyone to keep my new little granddaughter in their thoughts and prayers. She was born on Sat 7 weeks early unexpectedly. 3# 9 oz. Kayla did have to have some surgery today for a intestinal blockage but is doing super! We are keeping her 3 yr old sister and are doing ok. Cheryl R

How precious these little ones are! Our twin g'sons were premature and small but one is average now and the other is in the 98th percentile for height and weight for five year olds. How they can surprise us!
My prayers are with you, the babies and their parents.

Cheryl,
Congratulations! Granddaughters are wonderful...I have two. Yours is in my prayers already. My grandson was born eight weeks early four years ago and you would never know it now! Care for newborns is remarkable and so are the prayers and love from this community!

Cheryl...pirate socks on! My best friend's sister was 3 months early with a 1#6oz baby boy....who is now a precocious 10 year old with no signs that he was such a preemie. Your new granddaughter will do fine! Good thoughts and wishes headed to your family from Washington!!!
Hugs! Kathleen

P.S. Another positive story - a friend of mine had triplets at 32 weeks, and they all had huge, scary health challenges in the hospital for the first six weeks. Now, at 2 1/2 years, they're all perfect and healthy and you'd never know they had such a rocky start.

Thank you to everyone and your care and good thoughts. I know she is going to do fine in time. The NICU nurses have been wonderful. Both of us grandmas are nurses but we are used to old folks! The 3 yr old has been super condsidering her world got turned upside down in the middle of the night Fri. She has always been my sunshine thru all the blue AN times. The new Mom and Dad are doing well too.

Cheryl, congratulations on a new baby granddaughter. I'm sure she will be just fine. They do wondrous things in that NICU now. My neighbors had twins who were preemies. The girl was about 3 lbs. So tiny! They will be 3 in May. They are doing great. Have the baby in my thoughts.

Good news on the baby front! Our little granddaughter came home yesterday at 3 weeks old. Alll of a little over 4# of her! She is taking breast milk from a bottle which is how they finally got her to get going eating. She came home in an Iowa ice storm but they made it ok.
The weather is preventing us from going to go visit but will in a couple days. We have had 9 or 10 " snow now also.

Cheryl, Grannnie,
I did some research on premature babies when my Fraternal Grandsons were delivered early. One was petite, low birth weight (second percentile), and one was just borderline low birth weight. At age 6 the petite one is average in height, and weight. The second born, (he slept on top of his brother in utero), is in the 99th percentile of weight and height for all six year olds! The stats say that premies will catch up to other kids in stature and weight by age 8 or nine years old. So, you see, genetics and environment plays such an important role here. One boy takes after the Mom, one boy takes after the Dad. Medical technology is so wonderful for these children.

Hey Cheryl: my niece was a preemie 23 years ago- she graduated from Tufts two years ago and now is working at Harvard doing just great! Really the technology is amazing- congrats on baby girls (they are so much fun to buy for)! Take care, Annie
