Title: A tribute to you
Post by: Lorenzo on January 28, 2007, 01:59:35 am: I sent this as part of an e-mail to somebody, but I felt I needed to post it here. I haven't been part of this family for very long, but I already feel so at home.

'One thing that will never cease to amaze me is the sheer kindness of people on support groups. The groups / families are not something one comes across here in Europe (at least not to the same extent), so it's always incredibly comforting to see it so openly displayed in the US.

When we got to Stanford I met the representative and guide from the 'International Service' to bring us around the hospital. (just as well, the hospital was biger than the town we lived in then!) The first thing she did is give me a blanket to keep! I had NEVER got anything like that, the sheer human gesture of it left us floored. As the week went on we saw more and more of the same kind of spirit. The free health library manned by volunteers was one of those, and the massage service, and quiet room, and wonderful cafe with health foods; the list goes on!!! I really had an amazing time there being looked after, and Sheila felt a lot more comfortable too. A different planet from here. Sure, it isn't like that everywhere I realise. Finding it there was an amazing thing

That same spirit is here, amongst this family on the forum! I am fortunate to know all of you, you all make my life a lot more interesting and warm.
