Title: Help with understanding the AN "language"
Post by: tugnutt on August 31, 2016, 02:19:19 pm
OK, I've lurked... and now I want to understand!  What is "SSD" and NF1 and 2?  retrosigmoid? I realize I should know, but I don't!

I had my surgery October 5, 2015; I was pretty ill - awful headache and nausea, because the tumor was pressing on my brainstem, compressing my brain ventricles, and I had fluid buildup.  It was done on an emergency basis, and I wasn't really very aware of what was going on.

Thanks for your help!  Any explanations for what these (and other terms) mean would help me out.

SSD Single Sided Deafness
NF2 Neurofibromatosis Type 2
Is a genetic defect that typically causes you to have an acoustic neuroma on both sides

Retrosigmoid a medical way of saying where they make the hole in your head to get to the tumour

Thanks, PaulW!  SSD - single sided deafness.  Now wonder I saw it with most posts!

I am SSD too! And thanks, retrosigmoid sounded a LOT more complicated...
