I feel nauseous getting the contrast dye injected. My MRI is coming up and I dread it. Does anyone feel this way? Does anyone worry about the effects on the kidneys getting these MRIs every six months/yearly?

Hi Cityview .....
Although I have never felt nauseous, nor any reaction, with gadolinium dye, I am required to have a kidney function blood test before every MRI. Therefore, I am not overly concerned about the effects of the dye on my kidneys, since all of my blood tests have been within normal limits.

Ditto, Clarice.
I have the test done before the MRI and have not had any kidney problems in the 8 yrs I've been getting them.

The die makes me nauseous. Not enough to vomit, but enough to notice it. The tech told me it's a common side effect.

Ditto Clarice and Alabamajane.
I've had many MRIs with contrast.
No nausea.
Also had the kidney labs before hand with no issues.

I've never had a problem with the more popular gadolinium, but at one place they gave me a different agent and I threw up. If you have a problem with one, ask if you could try another. Good luck.

I never had an issue while receiving the contrast during my MRI scans for my acoustic neuroma; however, when I had a CT scan (not for my acoustic neuroma) I was instructed to drink some contrast fluid which was later activated about an hour later right before my CT scan.
When they activated the contrast fluid, I felt a giant "hot flash" or "warming sensation" across my face which lasted about 10 seconds. It was moderately unpleasant.

I always throw-up from the dye. Bleech!
