Title: Second MRI completed
Post by: Necromancer on April 12, 2015, 08:49:26 pm
This is my first post in this section. 6-month MRI showed no growth. I will however be going for my baha implant this Friday April 17. I've had no new hearing changes ( ssd left side ) and no vertigo problems. Have been dealing with insurance issues, e.g. "We don't pay for that", workmen's comp. but still I have persevered. I will do my best to stay active here as things move along.

You've got my curiosity piqued (35 year veteran of the insurance industry).

Why would you think this would be covered by Workmen's Compensation?

My MDs feel that my single-sided deafness was precipitated by the flu vaccine. The vaccine caused a neuritis that inflamed the auditory nerve. When the nerve swelled because the unknown tumor was there it damage the nerve. The vaccine was given to me at work as part of my employment. I am a nurse that works in the hospital. So, was investigating the possibility that it could be covered under Workmen's Compensation. Don't know for sure if it will be. Currently everything is being done under my own health insurance. The health office at the hospital told me "I really don't think this'll go through, you've had this vaccine before and never had a problem." So I looked into every option. Just haven't heard anything from them yet. The first time they submitted it the only thing they said to Workmen's Comp. was was told to contact the vaccine injury compensation plan. Nothing about the fact that I was permanently deaf following the vaccine.

Then on top of this, my insurance company wouldn't cover the Baha. At my employer we have two different policies, one qualcare and the other Aetna. The Aetna policy covers the Baha. So, I got my employer to force Qualcare to rewrite their policy and cover the Baja so that it would match the Aetna  policy. Like I mentioned in my blurb you have to be your own advocate.

Well done Necro with regards to pushing the insurance issue and BAHA.

Off topic, but if you ever go down to Ironbound, eat here:

Well, just as a follow-up, had my MRI last week. This was my one-year follow-up since diagnosis and it showed no growth. My doctor feels that it is within reason to go to a yearly MRI screening now. I'm a sidenote, my AN was mostly  obscured  by the magnet of my Baha attract. The tumor was able to be visualized in 2-3 slices.
