Does everyone that has a tumor removed need eye patch.? How is the Eye nerve bothered? Is it because the eye in ? doesnt close..? what other possible problems do you have when they remove the Tumor..
-
I did not need an eye patch at all, my facial nerve was totally unfazed by my AN surgery although my scalp and in front of my ear was numb for a while. If you run a search for "Acoustic Neuroma Surgery" you will probably find loads of information on possible side-effects from surgery.

Thanks Deb I was just wondering there has been alot of people that say they wear a patch..just thought it might be standard issue...I love the pirate theme....

I did have double vision when I first came out of surgery, and was told that if that didn't clear up I'd get an eye patch so I'd be able to focus. Fortunately, my double vision went away within 12 hours, so no patch needed. I'm also one of the lucky ones with a facial nerve that apparently doesn't care that it just went through surgery - works just as well as ever.
Some people do need patches for the double vision, and some for dry eye. But, no guarantees that you'd need a patch. It is fairly common, but not a given.

I wear what looks like goggles but softer at night when i go to sleep. My eye doesn't close all the way and i don't have a gold weight put in. Here's a link...

Some folks get dry eye - due to eye not closing and/or poor blink function
overnight it can be a good idea to wear a patch to help on the moisture side.
Some of the nurses said that with a poor blink function
the overnight patch is good protection from accidental damage
(and it reduces the light too)
So for nightime it might be a good idea - even if not abosuletly necessary
Best regards

No eye patch here. I had double vision for awhile after surgery and lots of blurriness. My eye didn't close all the way so I taped it shut every night for a few months. Like everything else, everyone's story is different.

Thanks to all of you for your reply..I will try the little pillow type that you can put ice in or heat..and see if that works..again thanks

Hi Imurray69,
Right after my surgery, the nerves started to swell so the left side of my face had temporary paralysis. When I went to sleep at night I thought my eye was closed all the way but it really wasn't. I was on steroids for a while and that did the trick. No more problems. Ann
