Title: I don't want to go for 6 month MRI after Gamma Knife...
Post by: Nank on March 11, 2014, 06:00:05 am
First of all, I HATE MRIs but finally found a place where you sit up and watch TV and it is not enclosed.

Anyway, I had Gamma Knife 7/13.  I don't even want to go for 6 month follow up.  Do they always see something this early.  I did go for a follow up hearing test and my hearing has remained the same.

I guess I really don't want to know the results.

can I wait until 1 year?  Will that be "bad" if I do?

my dr. said we could wait a year...turns out I got one after 4 mo. anyway because of huge symptom increase...you could talk to the doc & ask exactly why you need one after 6 mo.

I agree with Jeanne, ask your doctor why he wants one at six months, discuss your concerns.

My first post CK MRI was 9 months after but that's because I wanted to know what was going on and pushed to have an MRI.  Now I've just had my 2nd year MRI which was 12 months but now have to wait another month to see the doctor and having another hearing test.

If the MRI is a claustrophobic issue with you, ask if they can give you something to relax you (I get 5mg of Valium  :o).

My doctor had me have my first MRI post GK after six months, then one year and now I go once a year.  I go next week for my two year post Gk MRI.  It's nice to know how things are progressing.

I don't think you're going to see anything Earth shattering at 6 months.  If you have a bunch of bad symptoms that's something to maybe talk over with your doctor. If not,   I blew my first MRI off and just went for the 1 year.

I think if you feel OK and no side effects, I wouldn't go either. From what I have seen no real benefit to having it a 6 mos.

Other than SSD I've been pretty asymptomatic since my GK in January 2013.

But I had my first follow up MRI at 6 months just for the satisfaction of seeing the necrosis of the dying (dead) AN. That was last August and there was a slight swelling (expected) along with the necrosis.

I just had the second MRI today (14 months) and the AN was slightly smaller than the August dimensions.

Next MRI is in a year.

What did you edit Jim?  It was kinda late, hope it wasn't a bad typo.  :-[
