Title: Pulsatile Tinnitus Help me
Post by: jrogers21 on November 17, 2013, 11:53:00 pm
So it all started when I was 5 months pregnant with my son and it wasn't that noticeable. After the baby I didn't notice but over time it has gotten worse and now its to the point where I can't hear without pressing my neck to hear. I have been to an ENT and they said my hearing was normal and I've had CTs, MRI, and MRA which were all normal. The only way to make it stop is to press the right side of my neck for relief. I just need answers before I go crazy.

I just wanted to write and affirm that I understand.

Were your MRIs with contrast?

The pulsatile tinnitus was--and remains--my biggest frustration.  I've heard my heartbeat in my left ear for 14 months now.  I am mostly "used" to it, but it can still be annoying.

I had an MRA as well, and they could not identify a cause.  I have consulted with a half dozen doctors, neurosurgeons, ENT specialists and voodoo doctors.  No one can identify a cause and tell me this is rare.

If it helps, you're not alone, but I recognize that's of little consolation.   I sleep with a TV on since that's when I notice it the most.

Sending what support I can--

P.

hi all,

My pulsatile tinnitus started in my right ear when i was pregnant. The doctor said it ill go away after my delivery.. but it did not go.

now it is two years am suffering. my tinnitus is constant. If my press my neck it stops.

I had MRI brain scan without contrast, it came back normal. My doctor was not able to find a cause. IS this a serious problem?

I have a daughter just completed one year.. I do not want to die leaving her alone

If anyone knows about my symptoms please reply as soon as possible.

Hi, Lavanya ~

Although I'm not a physician, I believe that pulsatile tinnitus is not known, by itself, to be fatal - but it certainly can be maddening.  It has many causes, high blood pressure being one of them.  In some situations serious medical issues could be the cause of the tinnitus.

Unfortunately, finding the exact source of pulsatile tinnitus can be complicated and sometimes frustrating.  However, your suffering makes the quest to find the source of your pulsatile tinnitus somewhat urgent.  I would suggest that you seek out a sympathetic doctor that will do the testing that may discover the source of the tinnitus you're dealing with.

I wish you success - an eventual end to your pulsatile tinnitus.

Jim
