Title: 9 Month MRI Post CK
Post by: moeson on October 24, 2013, 11:58:01 am
I thought I would share some good news relative to my MRI results. My neurosurgeon just called to let me know that the MRI showed the tumor had a border of retraction away from the brain stem, as well as decreased enhancement. Although the tumor size was relatively stable, he said these are classic signs of necrosis after CyberKnife treatment. I needed this good news as my word discrimination score markedly decreased in my latest hearing test. As a result, I just got fitted for a Phonak Audeo Q this morning.

It is nice to take a step back and see how far I have come since my diagnosis last December. My balance is almost normal and nerve pain has diminished due to an extended taper course of prednisone which I intend to end next month.

Stay optimistic, my ANA friends!

Always nice to read about good things happening and seeing progress!

I'd love to hear how you like the Phonak Audeo Q once you get used to it.

Cathie.

I am total enjoying the Phonak.  I was not looking for any miracle restoration, but rather a means to preserve muscle memory and maintain my somewhat diminished hearing. However, it has proven helpful in restaurant settings and while watching TV. I also love the enhanced crisp sound while walking over Fall leaves! Today I had the sound level bumped up from 70% to 90% of the target range and I really see a difference. I also asked the audiologist to pick up the pink noise volume for the tinnitus masking feature.

I have the Bolero Q with a custom earmold in my not quite totally deaf AN ear and it works very well!  I think my audiologist was surprised I have serviceable hearing now because my word recognition in that ear without any hearing aid is only 12%.  She thought I would gain the ability to hear sound but not understand speech.  I think I am discerning speech on the AN side.   ;D
