Title: My Face Twitched!
Post by: msuscottie on September 08, 2006, 12:35:55 pm
I'm not sure what this means, but I was just coming back from lunch and looked in the mirror and the left side of my face (that I've had no feeling in since 10/04) was twitching below my eye up around my cheeckbone. OK, it just did it again. It probably looks crazy, but I'm assuming this is a good thing? Does that mean the nerve is regenerating?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Signed,
Twitchy

Could mean many things - but definately worth investigations
There are tests to see if the nerve is still there (but dormant)
I should call your neuro on mon
Best regards
Tony

It's been about 39 years ago that I had my 7/12 surgery done.  The neurosurgeon said that twitching would indicate regeneration.  I still remember how happy he sounded when I called to report the first tiny movement.  (almost happier than I was.)

The first sensation I felt was twitching. I immediately called my doctor and he told me it is most likely the nerve regenerating. It was a WONDERFUL feeling ;D I called everyone I knew and told them

I'm only two months out, and my face is slowly coming back, but one of the things I notice is a twitching under my eye that I can't feel.  I see it when I look in the mirror.  Good luck!!!  I hope this is good news for you!

So ... my face hasn't twitched again since Friday. My Dr. had never said to call if it did twitch, so I don't know if I should be calling him or not? Is he just going to say, "yeah, that's nice," or do they need to know this for their charts or whatever? Not sure what I should do.

I'd call, what can it hurt? They may be able to give you some advice on what is happening, what to look for, etc.

Hope it keeps twitching!

;) That is great Scottie! I would call and ask them exactly what you asked here... is this something you need to know for your charts? What harm can it do? Maybe they will have more info to offer after hearing your news.

Maybe you're right. Just feel like I'm bothering them if I don't "need" anything

Scottie:

I would call.  You and your insurance company paid him/her a bazillion dollars...........any of us would want to know:  "What does this mean?"  Chances are you will be leaving a message with a nurse.  That is their job.  I called my Dr. many times after surgery with questions.......he or his nurse always called me back.

Good luck,  Kathy

Bother away, he will get over it if you are a bother!!!! I agree with Kathy, they have made plenty of money off of you and the insurance company; I think he could spare you 5 minutes  ;).

Scott I'd call!

Scott - did you ever call? What did the doctor say?

Nurse called back, said there's no way to know for sure, but it could be the nerve regenerating. Just said to stay patient and don't expect it all to come back at once, but it's usually a good sign.   :)
