So, I have had an earache in my AN ear for over a week. I contacted my otologist's office last Thursday and his opinion was allergies, gave me an Rx for Flonase. I have been taking antihistamines for weeks and started Mucinex when the ear first started to hurt in case it was fluid in my ear (been there, done that in the past).
Today, all other allergy type symptoms are gone but the earache persists. I mentioned it to my physical therapist at balance therapy and he strongly suspects it is migraine headaches manifesting as ear pain. Waiting for the otologist to decide who I need to see for this - him, my PCP, or another type of specialist. It's always something! :o :o

Four months after I had gamma knife, I also had ear pain that felt like an earache. Then I began to have shooting pains all on the an side. Doctor put me on a steroid. First one did not work. I was put on a second stronger steroid, and it worked. I have had no further problems and am eleven months out. My doctor said I was having a little bit of swelling that was causing the symptom.
Good luck.

I have an appointment with the neurontologist on Monday morning. To be continued...

Teri,
Too soon to tell! 6 months out symptoms normally get worse but then as time goes by about a year or so they should start dimishing as the dead tissue shrinks. The good thing Is IT DOES GET BETTER! Hang in there you've got a ways to go yet! Meditation helps best at least that's what I've found!

PS.
I had GK radiation. Results may vary depending on treatment modality! Hang in just the same! PM me if you need to!

Thanks, Mike.
I knew about the delayed reaction for symptoms when radiation is involved and I very strongly suspect ithe earache is just another side effect and not a migraine that is lasting almost 2 weeks. Patience is definitely a virtue when it comes to an AN!

I saw the neurotologist this morning. His conclusion is the earache and other symptoms are related to post CK growth and nerve irritation caused by the radiation. The vestibular therapist ordered computerized dynamic posturography testing. Scheduled October 1.

That should be post CK swelling, not growth.
I think this depicts the test I will be taking on 10/1.
