Title: Transear vs. BAHA
Post by: Brewers7 on September 10, 2013, 02:20:55 pm
After having a Transear for 2 1/2 years and a change in my  insurance company, I decided to get a BAHA.  Surgery to install the  abutment was on June 6.  I was "plugged in" yesterday.  On the plus side, the difference in sound clarity is amazing! I am thrilled.  On the downside, according to the audiologist who I saw yesterday, I may have some infection around the abutment site.  I have an appointment to see the oto on the 23rd.  Also, I have had some hassles with the new insurance carrier.  Hopefully, these matters will be resolved soon.  So, I guess the jury is still out but leaning heavily in favor of the BAHA.

Check with your ENT, but it should be all right to put some Neosporin or Triple antibiotic ointment around the base of the abutment.  Two weeks is a long time to let a possible infection brew!

They worked me in today since I have a hx of MRSA. He took a culture. Results Friday.   I am exhausted. I think in part from so much sound and stress over the infection.

Thanks Clarice.  I go back for a checkup Wednesday, but I think it is better.
