Title: Middle Fossa in Northern Virginia

Thank you for this amazing forum. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

Anyone here had Middle Fossa done in Northern Virginia/Maryland? Two surgeons I consulted(Dr.Brem of Johns Hopkins and Dr.Monfared of George Washington)recommended Retro Sig for my 1.5mm tumor. House Clinic recommends MF. I understand MF approach is a lot simpler, is preferred for small tumors and has a higher chance of hearing preservation. I'm unable to find a doctor in the Northern Virginia/Maryland/DC area who does MF. Please let me know if anyone has undergone this procedure in this part of the country. Thanks in advance.

I had middle fossa done in NYC, so I can't recommend any docs in your area.  But I wanted to post that I was happy with my decisions - they saved my hearing.  It's not 100%, there is a drop off on certain sounds, but I hear from that ear.

Yes, Sloan is here in NYC.  It's a fantastic place for cancer patients.  My wife is a cancer survivor and we were very pleased with our experience.

Let me know if you need a recommendation for a AN surgeon here in NY.  I think my guy was one of the best.

Thank you for your responses. How big were your tumors? Mine is 1.5mm slightly bulging out of the auditory canal.

Hello;
   1.5 cm and just exiting the IAC is a good size for MCF. I would choose that approach most anytime over RS. Sometimes, we have no choice, however.
   My 1st AN was 1.5 and Drs did a Translab. House developed and perfected these surgical procedures but MCF was not as well studied and used in 1977.
   Re, technicality of MCF, it is, and the surgeon needs to have plenty of experience in just MCF.

I don't know if he does Middle Fossa, but Daniel H. Coelho, MD is in Richmond, VA.  I had a consult with him and liked him.

Dr Coelho did my surgery (MCF) on 2 July 2013, he did a great job.
