Title: Does an AN cause cataracts?
Post by: Nank on July 20, 2013, 10:57:26 am
While I am lucky to not have any hearing loss in my AN ear, I feel like my vision is becoming "blurry" on my AN side.

When I met with radiology oncologist, I mentioned my eye feeling "weird" and he said something like, that is probably not related to AN.

Also, I haven't rec'd my blood work back yet re:  NF2.  Does that matter before Gamma Knife in 5 days?

Hi;
   To my knowledge, only those with NF-2 are subject to increased possibility of a juvenile type cataract. I wish again blood tests were more accurate.
   Maybe Dr. might consider looking for a tumor elsewhere in the body if a trip to Ophthamology proves the problem to be a cataract. Seems you should be seeing an AN specialist!! The MRI needs to be looked at closely and by more than 1 Dr.
   When you look in the mirror at the iris ( colored part ) of the eye, does it have any brownish flecks in it?

Do you have any facial numbness on your AN side?  That's my primary symptom--apparently the tumor is pressing on my trigeminal nerve.  As a result, the surface of my eye on my AN side is somewhat numb and sometimes I have odd sensations or my eye gets dry, etc.

I did see my opthalmologist (sp?) for a check-up, but also to discuss the condition of my eye.  My vision is fine, thankfully, but he did recommend some OTC drops to help keep it from getting too dry.

I hope all goes well for you.
