Going through the new site I mentioned - they specially mentioned a cause of dry eye
as being the "blink-rate". Basically the normal rate is around 22 blinks per minute
(for non- AN types) Except when looking at the TV or a computer screen
- when the rate can fall to 7 blinks per min amongst the gen population.
The slower rate causes a form of mild dry eye (sometimes called TV eyes ?)
My own blink system is now "manual" only one side, so 7 (or less) even
is the ongoing condition (due to facial nerve loss)
Basically the site was suggesting the normal blink/wash/wipe function was slowed
enough at 7 pm to cause discomfort (the natural tears tend to evaporate under these
conditions)
It may explain why I get sore eyes - even when fluid is still present
They advocate a solution which (may) beef up the eyes production of an oily
substance which helps preserve the natural fluids longer
Its a good theory - I ve ordered the stuff so we will know in a few days
if it works.
Any thoughts ?

I was put on Restasis, which I thought was not working at first. I am now 9 months post op and only use the Restasis 2 times a day. In another month I will switch to once a day. My tear production is back (almost too much!). My blinking is almost completely normal, only I notice it, it was very obvious at first. For the first month I used gel drops and ointment and a patch at night. After that, over the counter drops a few times a day (maybe 6) plus the Restasis and after 3 months, no drops at all, just the Restasis. Restasis is prescribed for dry eyes, AN or non AN. It doesn't work for everyone but it did for me, although I thought it wasn't working for the first month or so.

thanks.... while i was reading this, i became conscious of how many times i blinked!!!!
now i plan to time myself and check with this information.... amazing really.... i don't think most people have a clue how many times they blink....
I think eye probs regarding moisture and whether or not one has previous function with blinking or closing etc. are pretty high up there on the scale of how comfortable life is after an An depending on the way that An was treated...
