Title: One year MRI today
Post by: LakeErie on October 15, 2012, 01:24:22 pm
My surgery was Oct 6, 2011. The operative report characterized it as  an "aggressive subtotal resection of 95 - 97% of the tumor." Residual tumor was left on the brain stem and facial nerve.
Today's MRI report is " stable residual schwannoma size."
My neurosurgeon said the residual tumor left behind looks so good I can wait 2 years for the next MRI. So far so good.
My voice is probably 90% recovered and swallowing is 80 - 90% normal. Both are huge improvements over where they were 12 months ago. Numbness in and around my lips and chin persists, as does occasional tingling on the right side of my face. There are no complications from my surgery that are a problem. I get used to them more and more over time.
What a difference a year makes.

Thanks, Tod. The doctors tell me there is still time for a little more improvement, but nothing major. They sometimes see recovery to 18, and sometimes as long as 24, months from surgery.

I have wondered how your recovery is progressing as I haven't seen many posts from you lately. I hope it is because you are busy with normal activities following your radiation treatments last winter. Good luck.

LE ~

Your one-year MRI update is appreciated as it demonstrates that, where AN surgery is involved, time is often on our side.  May your healing continue.

It was great to hear your news.  Over a year since surgery and your positive healing since then in different areas is encouraging.
