Title: Hippotherapy for balance
Post by: Brewers7 on September 07, 2012, 06:58:18 pm
A PT friend of mine plans to start a group as soon as it gets a little cooler.  Horses are used.  Sounds fun.  Has anyone tried it?

Studies from 1988 through 2011 indicate some positive results through hippotherapy.

However "Aetna considers the use of hippotherapy (also known as equine therapy) experimental and investigational..."

And doesn't pay for it.

Aetna's Clinical Policy Bulletin Number 0151 provides interesting summaries of the studies:

One should check with one's insurance company to see if there's coverage.

I have BCBS.  I am assuming that they will not pay.  Don't know the costs yet.

Stoneaxe -

if you can get that approved, let me know.  I'd be happy to take up paddleboarding if it meant I could go to Maui.
