Hi all,
So here I go. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can ..... It sorta feels like ascending the first big hill on the biggest rollercoaster I have ever been on. I know I'm going to be OK, though. I have faith that God will be with me all the way and He has provided an excellent team to take care of me. I have a new understanding of the power of prayer. It's as though a fortress has been built up around me to keep me from harm and to give me peace. I am strapped in tight being held in His arms. It won't be long until I am stepping off of this ride and saying "Whew, I made it!". The only thing is I won't be running back to the line to go again. :)
I am staying busy until Friday. We have a swim meet tonight. I still have shopping and some more cleaning to do. Tomorrow night we'll be singing and praising The King here at home. We are musicians (the kids much more so than I) and we sing and play worship music for church. I couldn't think of a better way to prepare for surgery than to sing, play, pray and give thanks with those I love and am so blessed to have around me.
I so appreciate your prayers. This forum has been a HUGE blessing to me. Thanks so much for being here.

Prayers are being sent to you, your family and your team of doctors. I'm getting closer to my day and the nerves are kicking into high gear. I can't wait to hear how well you did!

It certainly is a very intense time right before the surgery date,, but you sound as if you have a marvelous "plan of action" to involve your family in praise with music and prayers! How wonderful! I know you are ready and God will be with you and your family. We all await word that you are on the "other" side as a Postie! Best of luck and God's grace,, Jane

My surgery is coming up a week and a half after yours. I just looked at the calendar and realized I'll be traveling to House in 10 days...

Best wishes to everyone approaching surgery. I can still remember how nervous I was. I was really scared as I walked into the hospital the morning of my surgery. I learned from this site that no matter what happens you will get through it! Hang in there!

Your words are so inspiring! Please know in your heart and think with your mind that HE is all knowing and all powerful if you are on HIS side who in reality can do you harm? I, as all of us who are online are with you in prayer, you shall come through this! All the indecision has become part of your past. It's almost time to Let Go and Let God!
See you on the other side when you can post your post op experiences!
Ps. Te he, you have hit a mighty nerve with me!In that, I was from a little boy a huge toy train fan (I am now 55)!!! "I think I can, I think I can....."is from the Little Engine That Could, you might be mistaken there, it is not a rollercoaster but a steam powered locomotive that was approaching a hill. A wholly different story in that on the other side of the hill is traction again!
Keep up the good attitude, it will guide you far in life!

I was scared walking into the hospital the morning of my surgery. I was the 1st one bright and early at 5:30am. When they handed me the pager and said when they are ready they will page you & the pager went off 2 minutes later my heart was pounding. I even shed a few quick tears when I was changing into my gown. I know what nerves you are feeling and we are all here to hold your hand and help you as much as possible.
I like your roller coaster analogy.... :D
You are in my prayers and we will see your post op post real soon.

Thanks so much you all for your words of encouragement and prayers. I so GREATLY APPRECIATE everyone on this forum. I'll post again as soon as I am able. My husband may do some posting for me.
Mike, I sorta was combining The Little Engine that Could story with my own feelings. That was one of my favorite books as a kid.
I know I'm gonna be OK.

Sending thoughts and prayers to you and your family. I'm sure you are ancy about now but think, this time tomorrow(it's 7:15 PM) it will be "over gone with gone" and you will be on your way to recovery ;D You will have a team of wonderful medical staff and caretakers at UVA. I can't say enough positive things about them.
Looking forward to hearing from you from the postie side of life ;D

Thanks for the update Tom. Our thoughts and prayers are with her, you and the family. When she wakes up she'll think "is it over already", lol. That's what I said to the surgeon then I threw up (because the room was spinning) and I went back to sleep under my warm blankies.
She will do fine- she has God above directing the surgical team and a great support team as well ;D

Update #2. spoke to Dr. Helm. had to leave a piece on the facial nerve. He said the nerve is still working well. Dr Hemoshaki. is in now removing the part in her ear.

Hey all,
This is Tom. Today is day 3 for recovery. Yesterday Jan had a blood transfusion due to low blood counts. During surgery they cut an artery. Jan is still in alot of pain. She states it hurts just to open her eyes. I got her up and walk around her bed . Then PT came in and had her walk to the hall . She still not eating. She had 1 bowl of jello yesterday. They stopped the fetenal today. only oral pain meds. When she starts coming around I'm sure she will post. I know this forum has really helped. her get thru this. UVA has been a great facility . Yesterday ASked the nurse if she could move to the bed next to the window, since her roommate was DC. The nurse said I can do better than that. They had a private room available and moved her into that room. What a blessing. Please keep praying for Jan. Thanks

Thanks so much for the update. I hate to hear that she is still in a lot of pain and not eating. I figured she would be up and running a marathon by now (kidding). UVA is a great place. I had my translab there on 5/24 and the staff was awesome!
Tell her we are all thinking of her and sending prayers up :)

Thank you for taking the time to post these updates on Jan. They are much appreciated.
Prayers will continue that the pain subsides, she can begin eating and her recovery will begin in earnest. Prayers for strength for you, too. :)

Just came on to see how she is doing so sorry about the blood transfusion I hope everything is okay? ... With my surgery they did something to the Mastoid bone and I loss blood but not enough for a transfusion ... Thank goodness she is in a private room and hoping for a speedy recovery.
Thoughts and prayers are with all of you and hoping she will be able to be on the computer soon.
