Title: The Space Needle--whoooah
Post by: nannettesea on July 12, 2006, 09:26:00 pm
Hi,
Nan here.  Thought I would share with everyone that I went up to the Space Needle on the way back from a long road trip.  The crew knows of my constant dizziness.

At the top, I was okay inside.  THEN I went outside.  I asked my husband if it was moving.  He said no.  That was really weird.  I guess it was the extreme height.  That was the worst off balance I've felt since this all started!

Nan,
You're braver than I am.  I no longer trust myself near edges with elevation.
Regards,
 Rob

Nan

I am so proud of you!!!!!!!!!!.  Knowing alittle of what you have been/are going thru, for you to push the limits like this is amazing.  I'm not great with heights in buildings so I truly admire you for going the distance with this.

Step by step we take back what was lost.   You go girl!!!!!

Lots of hugs and love
Raydean

Nan - That was a huge step you took and I am very proud of you too. I know how much you suffer everyday of your life and taking yourself to new hieghts (literally) is great progress. I have said this before, little by little I see you becoming much stonger. On the other hand I am sorry that it threw you so off balance and dizzy >:(

Hugs!
Cheryl

Nan:  I am very impressed.  Every once in a while I go up to our third floor at work and stand by the full length windows.  I get all yucky feeling.......I was a height lover before but no more.  I also don't like elevators any more.  I should go downtown and try the 1st to 57th floor elevator in 30 seconds just for the heck of it..........but then I would need to go out on the observation deck........can't even imagine it. Maybe Denise would go with me????

You all are great.  I wasn't looking for praise well maybe a little :-X.  It was just the weirdest feeling.

Rob and Obita, I know it feels really strange, but like Deb said, we have to challenge ourselves when we can.  Believe me, I haven't been one to do that.

Hugs to Raydean and Cheryl and Deb, who know so much of what this journey has been for me.

Actually, I wasn't trying to push, but just want to  to do some "normal" things with my husband.  Our life has changed so much since this illness, so I was determined.  We also went to the rain forest on the peninsula and I hiked for about 15 minutes....hadn't done that in sooo long.   Of course i didn't mention it took me a week to recover from the trip...!

I'm making myself take longer walks and really push to get my endorphins up.  It's strange, even though I feel worse, I feel "better" because my body is getting oxygen.

I encourage everyone as they recover to get as much exercise as possible.  Walking by itself has so many benefits!

Hugs,
Nan

Walk, walk, walk, and walk some more and when you can't walk anymore, walk some more!
Short walks, often
Long walks, less often!!
Now you are ready for the "bobblehead strut" which is walking and turning your head and spotting trees, cars, etc.
Go! Go! Go!

Yo ho ho, Cap'n.  Good advice.  I've been trying the bobblehead all along, pretty sporadic with vestibular exercises (I know, I know....! :-[) They just don't  seem to be doing a dang thing for me.

Will keep you posted on upper cervical.  It's supposed to help migraines, too.

Aargh.
