I had a laryngoplasty on Tuesday at Vanderbilt Hospital. (They propped up my paralyzed vocal cord with a small prosthetic device.) It was a fairly easy procedure with only twilight anesthesia so that I could talk during the surgery. That sounds terrible but it was not bad at all. Stayed overnight. I am a little hoarse but I was back at work on Thursday. The jury is still out on the overall results, but I am getting ready for court on Monday. While waiting to go into surgery, I sat next to a family of an AN patient. Gave them the website info and a brief run down of Baha, Transear, etc. Sweet family. Hope it was helpful. Susan

Susan ~
Congratulations on what I trust was a successful surgery. Thanks for sharing information about the ANA website, too. You did good. :)

That was quite something....hope it worked.

Good luck Susan! I hope this helps... a lot.

Thanks. Right now (one week post op) I sound like Mickey Mouse at puberty. The surgeon was very pleased. I think that once all the swelling goes down, my voice will be mostly normal. I read on the internet last night that the procedure can restore up to 90% function. That would be so awesome. Once again, we wait ....

So glad it went well - but I admit, I got a good laugh out of your Mickey Mouse comment! ;D
Hope you're sounding like your old self very soon!

How did things go in court? Was it easier than it had been?

Day 9 - My husband says that at night I sound like the AFLAC duck. Everyday it has improved slightly. My voice is much deeper and much louder but still hoarse. No pain.
-
After firing Gilbert Gottfried over his tsunami comments, AFLAC is looking for a new spokesduck. ;D
I am glad you are seeing marked improvement.

That is good to know, Tod!

My son-in-law works for AFLAC. I might be able to hook you up! ;) I wonder how much one gets paid to be a duck?

Here's hoping your voice improves a little every day. Definitely sounds like you are going through some sort of weird alien puberty!
Stay strong, I can tell you have it in you!

Lori, I also have some Disco Duck experience. Thanks Moe.
