Title: Donating Blood
Post by: KBL on June 09, 2011, 04:26:25 pm
I have not donated blood since before my surgery,   I keep forgetting to ask my Doctor.  Do any of you know if it will give me a wonkier head for the day?  I have tremendous fatigue already and do not remember donating giving me fatigue before surgery.  Since I do not work because of the tumor, maybe I could take 2 hours and donate platelets.  I didn't recieve blood products with my surgery, and have not been on steroids since September.  I donated on a regular basis before surgery,  I guess I will consider that my activity for the day, since I'm so limited on energy.  Again, it seems like a silly question.

I donate all the time. It does not give me any wonkier a head than i already have. I try to take it easy for a few hours after but other than that I don't do anything different. I do drink a lot of water before I donate and I think that helps alot.

I'm a regular blood donor - have been for years - and I have had no issues donating.  Sometimes I donate whole blood, sometimes ALYX - which is a double donation; I haven't had time to donate platelets since my AN surgery, but will when I have time (long process).

My local blood bank (LifeSource) did tell me I had to wait for a time post op before I could start donating again; I think it was 4 - 6 months maybe (?)

I donate regularly and after my recovery I resumed without any problem.

I haven't had any issues either.  I make sure I drink extra water the day before and the day of the donation.  I try to avoid scheduling anything important for afterwards, just in case I feel more fatigued, but that's been something I've always done anyway.

Definitely not a silly question - I think it's great that you want to donate!
