Title: SMACK Down!!
Post by: Sue on February 20, 2011, 06:28:21 pm
Last night we had a couples night out with good friends.  We've seen them in January, but you'd think we hadn't seen them in 10 years, the warm greeting that we got!1  That was nice.  Hugs, kisses!  Goodness,  how sweet, right?  Well!!  My friend's husband put me in a bear hug, had his lips on my good ear and did the ear kiss.  The mmmm, SMACK sound.  Ever get that?  Well, he smacked right in the good ear and it was a direct hit, let me tell you, and it was totally bizarre what I experienced in a nano-second.  I saw a blinding white light and I think I had total deafness for a mere blip of a second.  It was like a spear of sound/sound went in and stabbed me.  I gasped and scared him to death, and hung on him and said...well, actually, I'm not sure what I said now.  Something along the lines of, if I lose the hearing in my good ear then I'm done for...or words to that effect.  No more ear smacks!!  It was very disconcerting, and a bit painful and very startling. Anyone else ever had this experience.  Don't want a repeat of that, ever again, thank you.   :P

Oh yikes, Sue .....

My first reaction was "My goodness, why would anyone kiss someone else directly in the ear??"  But, maybe he missed   :-* with his aim.  For whatever reason, I will now be on my guard to make sure no one misses when kissing me!   ::) ;D

Ooof.  Stay away from over enthusiastic kissers.   :o

Usually what happens to me is that my hearing aid squeals/feedback, startling both me and the other person!

Thisnis the hug and near kiss on the cheek kind of thing.  I'm sure he didn't mean to actually kiss me on the ear.  But he did.

Sue,
Wow!  I can't believe someone else had this experience.  I just read your post to my husband, laughing as I told him that I'd never heard anyone mention this, but that it's definitely happened to me.  It is like someone setting off a firecracker in my ear.  It's the freakiest  thing, isn't it?  Well, I'm sorry that you experienced this, but also glad to know I'm not the only one.  Thanks for posting this.  You made my day!

Well, Debbi, I am happy that somebody else went through this experience, because I haven't heard of this before.  Don't want either of us to go through that again, either.   Firecracker is right.

Not that I wish the dreaded ear kiss on anyone, but I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who experiences this.  I find that when I hug people, if they do the kiss thing, it is close enough to my ear to sometimes cause a ridiculously loud noise.  It always startles me.  Now, of course, I also have to worry about the deaf side, since anyone getting too close to that is likely to bump my baha and cause a loud electronic shriek. Boy, the fun never ends, does it?  :D

and you know i think for myself any way that i am so cautious of my good ear and the fact i've lost one ear and 1/2 my eye sight on the AN side as well that almost anything sets off that

OMG reaction......there are several concerts coming to the rodeo here in Houston that i would love to go to, BUT not with just 1 ear left.....
