Title: Toasting 3 year MRI
Post by: Debbi on February 07, 2011, 10:35:56 pm
I decided to get my MRI a little early this year, mainly just to get one source of stress and worry off my plate.  So I emailed Dr. Roland a few weeks ago to see if I could go early, and also if I could go to a radiation facility nearer where I live.  He got me set up in record time and I showed up at the imaging place bright and early this morning, clutching my Valium in my sweaty little hands!  As usual, Willie sat with me and held my feet (hey, you never know when you, might need to make a quick exit, right?). And also as usual, even with 10mg of Valium and Willie hanging on to my feet, I was in uber-anxiety for the first ten minutes or so.  Man, I really do hate being enclosed - even the newer short bore machines are enough to make me want to curl up in a little ball of fear.

Anyway, by 3 this afternoon, Dr Roland emailed to tell me that the initial report looks good and no sigh of regrowth!!!  Yippee!!  (HEY, can women my age still say "yippee?".  >:( >:(

This means that I am good for another year! Waahoo!  Still working on my face, and still battling fatigue occasionally , but I must say that I have no complaints.  And, hey, I'm finally getting my  BAHA next week!

Hope everyone else gets good newsmtoo,.

Debbi, breathing a little easier now...

Grace, those of us ANers on Facebook figured out we have someone with their MRI coming up each month.     We needed one for May so you are our May person!      I am April and have March and June so now we need a July!       Just something to keep our sanity up with this whole AN business!
Plus so happy for you Debbi and so nice get the news the same day so don't have to worry even longer!

Debbi ~

Allow me to offer my own, heartfelt yippie! to your expression of joy (and relief) at your clear 3-year MRI!  May you enjoy a few dozen more, at least!

Jim

Thanks all!  And, may I suggest that "Yippie" become our offical celebratory "word"?  I rather like the way it sounds.  And, if Jim can use it so eloquently ... well, if it's good enough for Jim, it's good enough for me.

Cheers - and Yippie!

OK I guess I'll stick to my MRI in JUNE (5 year). I was going to move it up to May, but won't have to.
Yipee, or however we want to spell it!

  Congratulations Debbie,

I too hate the enclosure,  but my last MRI they had a new fixture on the machine.  A mirror.  Maybe some of you have seen these.  It is a mirror clipped
right on to the frame over your head.  It was the greatest thing because when you opened your eyes you could see out of the tube.   I could see people walking
around doing whatever. quite an expansive view.   It was just like looking out a window the whole time.  This greatly reduced the claustrophobia.  I don't know when they started using this,  but I didn't have it on my three previous MRI's.  Again , congratulations on your good news MRI.

                                                                                                                                                                  Bryan

Yes, the mirror does help.   My last 4 MRI's have had that little mirror and it makes a difference.  Unfortunately, it doesn't help me much with the claustrophobia.   :(  I am just unreasonably terrified of being in any enclosed space - I can't even ride in the backseat of a car unless it has 4 doors.  And do you remember when the rescue of the Chilean miners was on the news?  I was riveted to it, like many people, but I wasn't able to watch the miners being strapped into that tiny capsule - I literaly started sweating and feeling like I couldn't breath.  I wonder if hypnosis would help me get over this crazy fear?

I have to go for a breast MRI on Monday (that's another story for another day) and I am already freaked out about having to be in the TOT again.  Honestly, I feel like a total wimp.

Okay, so let's all get back to...

YIPPEE!!!

Congratulations Debbi!! That is great news!

My next visit to the tube of gloom will be April or May for my 2 year anniversary! I can handle being in it as long as I keep my eyes SHUT the entire time. Not looking forward to going, but looking forward to getting it over with and hearing excellent news like you did!!

Congratulations again!!

 :D So happy for you!
My 2 year anniversary is coming up.  I have not seen My surgeon (Dr. John Tew) since my craniotomy in June of 2009.  I was thrilled to find out that he will be a keynote speaker at the upcoming ANA symposium in Cincinnati where I had my surgery.   I have not been able to see him because he is approx. 7 hour drive from where I live in Michigan.  So I am Super geeked to be able to go to the symposium and then follow-up with him on Monday the 20th of June (day after closing of symposium)!  My pcp will order the MRI to be done first week of June, and I will have results in hand when I see Dr. Tew.
Are you planning to attend the symposium?
Nice to meet you on here.   ;D
