I am newly diagnosed with a small AN. Does anyone have info on quality of surgery at OHSU?

Karen,
I'm also looking for information on specialists in the Portland area -- I'd be interested in what you find. I found a link to 2 docs through the OHSU web site (I did a google search for acoustic neuroma Oregon). I've also heard of a Dr Hodgson in Portland. I've just recently moved to Oregon and am in the process of getting my records and MRIs from out of state and finding out what my new insurance will cover, waiting period for "preexisting conditions" etc.
Good luck

Hi Julia, I have met with one surgeon at OHSU...Sean McMenomy... He seemed to do quite a few surgeries for AN but I couldn't tell you the numbers. I was not really satisfied with his conclusions....he wanted to do the translab which would sacrifice my hearing. He felt my hearing was not salvageable but I strongly disagree with that.
I have not pursued any other surgeons because I have decided to go to Stanford for Cyberknife treatment. After months of research I know that this is the best choice for me. :)
I did hear from "Jan" who had surgery somewhere else in Portland and was happy with the results. I'm sorry but I have lost her reply. After all I have read in these last few months I think I would go to House Clinic if I was having surgery.
I will see if I can find out anymore.....
Good Luck,
Karen

I'm not sure if this is helpful: http://www.seattleear.com/Supportgroups.html
Of special interest is SANG, Seattle Acoustic Neuroma Group, who would have Dr. info for the Pacific NW. Maybe Raydean will catch this.
Best wishes!!

Raydean is away from the computer and busy at her work but I can recommend Dr Charles Mangham of The Seattle Ear Clinic. Dr Mangham is considered to be one of the best in his field in the nation. He's known at The House Ear Clinic and did a fellowship there. I think his website address is www.seattleear.com for additional information
