Title: Headaches in The Pain Chronicles
Post by: staypoz on October 12, 2010, 07:31:15 am
There's a new book out by a journalist named Thernstrom called The Pain Chronicles.  She suffered from chronic pain and her book includes some excerpts from her pain diary.  It also gives a history of pain treatment, information about how pain is viewed and interpreted in various cultures and by various religions, and how chronic pain differs from acute pain.

She went to a pain doctor to interview patients and the first one she writes about in the book is a post-surgical AN patient who experienced severe headaches.  I couldn't believe it when I started to read it!!

It's well worth reading.

Sounds interesting! Where did you get the book?  I have one called "The Pain Cure" by Dharma Singh Khalsa MD. Haven't read it cuz my head hurts when I read!  I have two appts at two different pain clinics in Charlotte on Wednesday.  Going to try to find a doc who will treat my back and my head.

Capt Deb:

I got it at Barnes and Noble and have already recommended it to my pain doc.

Good luck with the appointments and hope you continue to heal from your latest surgery!

Thanks, Tricia.   I will get it.   You are such a wealth of knowledge!

I won't go back to the Hopkins doctor as he wanted me to stop all pain meds cold turkey and I just couldn't do that.

I will go for a second Sleep Apnea Test to see how I am doing.

I just went online and ordered the book.  It should get here by Thursday.  Nice to know there is a pain doc. that puts us as first.  We do have excruciating issues going on.   So much so, that I can't even begin to think about my SSD right now.
