Hi all i had my ist apt. today too get my baha site seen too, the nurse cleaned it up and took out the stitches, and mention that their is hair follicles growning round the site and may interfere with sound from the baha has anyone else ever been told this.x

I've never had this problem, but spoke with a man once who had a BAHA and he has his barber shave a very small area around the abutment when he gets his hair cut. The longer hair above it covers the spot with no hair and the abutment, so it's not like he had a big bald spot on the side of his head.
Did you doctor suggest doing anything in case the hair does interfere with the BAHA?

Was the doctor suppose to shave the hair follicles under the skin when he/she open the skin prior to the procedure? Part of the BAHA kit for surgery does have a hair follicle shaver so the hair does not regrow under the abutment.

she said most of the hair had been shaved but their were a few focllicles, time will tellx

Usually the doctor "scrapes" the hair follicles underneath the skin when the flap is made so that hair doesn't grow too close to the abutment.
I'd wait and see if it's a problem and then revisit it with your doctor if necessary.

Hi,
Yes, I have hair growing from the abutment area and not growing in other places...seems like the scrape job was off a bit. :-\
At first it bothered me as the hair grew in - as it rubbed the baha and irritated my already sensitive scalp. I did cut it back once, but what really seems to be better is to let the hair grow out so that the hair doesn't push up against the baha, rather it lays down...
best, melinda
