..... depends on which scar ..... :o
All seriousness aside ::) just this noon, I discussed abutment placement with the baha doc, as I'm due for that next Thurs. Scar location didn't seem to matter, but he did want to know where the patch of titanium mesh is ..... the mesh left over from AN surgery. Well, thinking about it more, it's been 5.5 yrs since my surgery, so my scar is kinda hard to find (yeh!) .... but the CT scan pix do show the titanium is still there (yeh again!). And it's very possible the abutment will be placed right on the scar, at a place where the skull is pretty thick.

my BAHA site is right on top of my AN site.
In fact I have a screw from my AN surgery (the one that bolts my mastoid bone together - I had retrosigmoid) that needs to be taken out of my head since it's pretty near the surface of my skin.
Have to see my neurotologist about that one of these days ::)

let me know how you get on .

I definitely will.
My doc told me about this screw right after my surgery when my site was still healing. He noticed that the top of it was visible under the skin, but he wanted to wait to see if it actually "surfaced" or not. Today, a little over 2 years later, I think it's close to popping through, but not being able to see behind my ear (and having squeamish children), I'm not 100% sure of it's status.
I need to make an appointment, but at this point it's more of an annoyance than anything; sometimes I "hit" it when I'm putting my glasses on.
If he does have to remove it he assured me that it's just a simple matter of using a screwdriver to unscrew the screw. Office procedure; nothing major.

There is more than one surgical procedure for the BAHA implant. I had the one that has a flap. Another procedure uses just a straight cut. In that case, the abutment would be right on the scar. I have forgotten where I found the information on the single incision procedure but my doctor did acknowledge the it existed. If you are referring about a different scar, I can't help.

Mu abutment site crosses the uppermost part of my scar. My doc told me prior to my BAHA surgery that he was putting there.

I had a straight cut and the abutment will go on the BAHA scar, and that scar is about 3/4" from my AN scar.
