Title: fresh photo: titanium exposed
Post by: teffaz on February 01, 2010, 11:00:41 pm

This shows my Baha sound processor (that huge thing!); just below it is the exposed hardware from my translab surgery. Cheryl asked if it was painful: no, just tender. It feels "tight" and as if my skin were being stretched, especially when I turn my head. My neurotologist told me he has never seen this happen before.

So, this will all be taken care of with out-patient surgery this Friday.

You all are great!

Best,
Brenda (teffaz)

Brenda -

interesting photo.

I have a screw from my AN surgery (retrosigmoid) that has "popped" through the skin near my BAHA abutment.

I'm planning to see my doc one of these days to have it removed.  It really doesn't bother me unless I "hit" it with the arm of my sunglasses on occasion when I'm putting them on.

Brenda,

Does it interfere with your BAHA at all?  It looks like it's pretty close.  I know if my sunglasses get close to my processor, it squeals.  Just wondering if that's been a problem with the exposed titanium.

Jan, we all knew you had a screw loose.  Now we have physical proof!   :D

Just wishing you good luck with your surgery Friday and I am having considerable pain around the titantium plate and the doctor's have me waiting to give it more time to heal and if it is still giving me problems they advised to have it removed ?? But I never thought that it can come through the skin, did they say that the BAHA could have caused this ? My prayers will be with you.

Best Wishes,

Pat

Pat -

the BAHA device probably didn't cause this, but the implant surgery probably did.

During the implant procedure the skin on the skull is thinned out and those of us who had AN surgery often have "hardware" in that same area of the skull.

It doesn't happen a lot, but it does happen on occasion.

Very funny, Lori  :D

I cannot tell that it interferes with my Baha, but its close proximity will make surgery more difficult.

Thanks for the photo, Brenda,
That is very unique looking, I must say! :o
Good luck with your surgery/procedure, if it hasn't been done yet.
