My one-year MRI came back tumor free today! I feel so much better. Every time I get the tingling lower lip, the facial headaches, or the "corkscrew tightening" on the side of the head I get nervous. My surgeon says the tumor is gone! He thinks I should seriously consider a BAHA for my SSD. I have noticed lately that those darn 9th graders (no matter how much they love me) DO KNOW that I can't always hear what is being said around the room. I think perhaps they are taking advantage of the situation. So...what do you think? Should I give the BAHA a try? I would love to hear some comments on the subject.

Definitely go with the BAHA, especially with all those kids. Good results, and people love em!

Sue,
That is such GREAT news! I can't speak for the Baha yet, but I can speak for those trickster 9th graders! My biggest fear is going back to the classroom....what will I hear and more importantly what WON't I hear! ;) they're good kids, but I am not sure how they can NOT play with me a bit with the hearing - it is almost beyond their control at that age. I have always had a high tolerance for noisy classrooms but not anymore. My PT just told me that I need to hang out in the mall on the weekends to help prepare me for the school's hallways! lol My daughters LOVE this idea! ::) You can "test" the BAHA, right?
So keep me posted on what you decide and how it works in the classroom as I am following in all fellow AN teachers' footsteps! :)
Good luck - HOpe you have that BAHA moment they write about!

HI Sue,
Congratulations on your MRI result! How wonderful to be tumor free!

Hi, Sue ~
Kudos on the clear MRI and yes, if your lack of hearing is becoming a problem in the classroom, I would advise that you consider a BAHA to help alleviate the problem.

Congratulations Sue! My first MRI since surgery (7.30.09) was just done this past Monday...won't know the results until a 30 November appointment with the Neurosurgeon.
I'm very happy for you...that's great news!
Take Care and be well!

Yahoooo Sue tumour free I am jealous!
I also teach but I teach kindergarten. At times I don't always hear what someone says but another is always willing to repeat it for me especially if it is something they should not have said.
They have also learned to tap me or tug on my shirt. Oh and really kindies are extremely loud anyway.
I can imagine those niners thinking cool we don't have to pass notes when Mrs. _ is here. ::)
Let us know how it goes if you do decide to go with the BAHA.

HI Sue,
Congratulations on a clean MRI! Definitely check into BAHA. I had my surgery in January and got my processor in April. It's made a huge difference in my life. I love my Divino but even though there appear to be a few glitches, it seems the BP100 might be even better.
Best wishes,
Wendy
