I don't visit this section of the forum too often, since my hearing is minimally affected. However, a while back I found a source for single ear stereo ear buds for a fellow hemifacial spasm patient with single sided deafness, and I do not remember ever posting it here.
At the time I originally found these, they only came in black. Now there are other colors, and buds designed for a specific ear. They are very reasonably priced and I hope this is helpful to some of you here.

Thanks for the post, Sara. I was wondering if there were some single sided earphones. I'm thinking I will order some.

Thanks for the link, Saralynn.
I have a single ear stereo ear bud from Radio Shack (I has a mono plug from there also) but it isn't made for a specific ear. It works very well though.

Thank you so much Sara Lynn :), finally, buds made for us one eared guys. I've been deaf in my left ear for years and all this time I've been cutting off the left-ear bud so it doesn't get tangled up and than just making due with poor sound quality. I just ordered a right ear only setup...can't wait for it to arrive! ;D
Thanks again and take care!

Jan, I looked at the Radio Shack website and couldn't find these, do you have a brand name or model number?

Hi Sara,
Thanks for the links. I remember someone (maybe Jan) posted something similar last year but whether someone is seeing this for the first time or just being reminded such things do exist, it's great information to have!

I didn't know they made them. Thank you so much for the posts! I'll order one asap.
I went to the symphony the other night for the first time since surgery. I enjoyed it very much. But it was noticable that I could only hear on one side. It was kind of like loud on my hearing side (obviously), but the deaf ear side just felt kind of thick like sometime was blocking the sound. It was very interesting.

Here is a link to the mono plug I purchased at Radio Shack

I can't find a link to the single ear phone, but I'm sure you could find one @ your local Radio Shack.

Thanks Jan, just to make sure I understand what you are using, you have a mono single ear bud and then the adapter makes it stereo. It's good to know that there is a local option for folks with a nearby Radio Shack.
There are other uses for a single bud besides SSD -- one of my gym buddies wants one so that she has an ear free to be more aware of her surroundings while jogging. I think we are going to put in a joint order to save on s&h.

that is correct. Just using a single ear phone will not give you stereo sound in one ear - that's where the mono plug adapter comes in. The mono plug converts the stereo sound - that you'd usually get by using two ear phones - into one "place". The single ear phone then lets us hear the stereo sound.
Someone told me that Amazon.com also sells the mono plug.

Amazon does have a couple of options: -
Single-sided headphone:

Single earbud:

The earbud is mono, but I could not tell about the single-sided headphone. Since it is designed for a professional DJ I would guess stereo, but even the Stanton website (http://www.stantondj.com/v2/headphones.asp) doesn't specify. It would be a good option for someone who doesn't like earbuds.
The beauty of the 1-Bud in my original post is that it is already a single stereo earbud, no adapter necessary. But to my knowledge it is only available by web order, so it's great to know about the Radio Shack products as well.

Hi Sara,
I posted about this company last year I think - I have a couple of their headphones and they're great, and really good prices. Bit embarrassing on a plane though when you're listening to music or watching a film and the air stewardess is trying to ask you a question and everyone's looking at you like you're ignoring them because you only have one headphone on, so CLEARLY you'd be able to hear them from your other ear!

I received my Single Ear Bud today (Right Bud Deluxe / MEP-101MR) from Scan Sound; ordered it last week after reading this thread...thanks Saralynn. They do not deliver true stereo sound but it does play the left channel I've been missing into my right ear very nicely and noticeably.
It was immediately apparent when I listened to a 1960's vintage musical stage recording where the left channel was barely audible with conventional ear buds...the same recordings sounds great now. I chose this older recording to test the Bud since I knew with the way they recorded back than I'd have a better chance of being able to tell the difference; I turned out to be right as the recording quality wasn't nearly as sophisticated as we'd find in today digital world.
I recommend anyone missing the full sound of stereo music give these are try...but don't expect to hear true stereo, you'll only hear both channels played in the same ear. In my opinion, they were worth the $29.00 I paid for them, a little steep, but still less than a good pair of Bose buds at $100.00, which you'll only use half of anyway.

Awesome. I'm getting a new IPod in a few weeks. I'll be getting this as well. Good to know I'll still have good sound!

Thanks for the post Sara. I'm gonna order one right now too!
I also went to 2 Radio Shacks & honestly, those guys didn't have a clue how to help me. There were so many plug adaptors there, even they were confused!

I just ordered a pair and a spare to tuck into my Christmas stocking. I'm getting the pretty white and gold BudPro.
