Title: nausea???new sympton???
Post by: tenai98 on August 21, 2009, 01:20:47 pm
Well I cant remember the last time I upchucked..been many yrs....And I now I get this pre upchuck state....My jaw tigthens and my mouth waters...This was the way I use to get when I had morning sickness..NO not pregnant now...I"m a grandma..Anyhow this  is happening now and today its strong...Now there is no tummy ache or nausea feeling in stomach...Just this sour pucker upper on AN side of mouth...My jaw since surgery has had a constant low grade ache....when I ask the doc about it he said it was probably from having the tube in my throat..well its been almost 5 months since surgery.  The ache is like putting on a face smile and holding it for half hour...muscles ache...hard to explain how it feels....hard to explain how alot of things feel...I guess its like putting a vey sour candy in mouth...All my post surgery symptons are minor compared to some of you and i feel guilty for even complaining...Its just frustrating....I look normal but head is messed up...oh well one step at a time and one day at a time....

JO ~

I'm sorry to learn of this latest issue you're dealing with.  Unfortunately, I have no idea why you're experiencing nausea and what amounts to jaw clamping.  I would suggest you talk to your doctor but I get the impression that you already have and your doctor couldn't offer an explanation.  If the nausea isn't related to your digestive system, I don't know exactly what kind of medication you would take to relieve it.  Another good question for your doctor because I sure don't have an answer, only sympathy for your situation and admiration for your fortitude.  May better days be close at hand for you.  :)

Jo -

I'm with Jim, you should check in with your doctor.

The tube theory makes sense, but IMO not 5 months post op.  Sounds like something else is going on.

I hope you find the cause soon; please keep us updated.

checking with another specialist is required. since if your current dr. made a mistake, he probably wont own up to it.

get a second opinion.............proceed from there//////////////and good luck too

In the mean time, try some peppermints to help with the nausea. It helped me. :)

Hi JO,

I have had the same thing happen to me. I try to describe it as biting down on a sweet and sour candy. I didn’t feel nauseous, but the watering mouth you described was definitely there and I had to constantly swallow. It happened about 3 ½ to 4 months post-op and was quite prominent for about a month or so. It has gradually subsided on its own, and I hardly notice it now. I also have the constant ache in my jaw which feels like a low grade tooth ache running along the lower jaw on my AN side… that sill remains to this day. I have had so many changes with the taste in my mouth that I don’t know what is what. I’m trying to reason that it all part of the process of my taste returning to normal. ??? Still not there yet, but not as bad as it was!
It certainly wouldn’t hurt to mention it to a doctor… I’d be interested in what they say.

Hi. I experienced this exact feeling/sensation on and off for a couple of weeks and just had cyberknife at
Stanford last week, so it wasn't related to surgery. This sensation began at the same time as a whole array of symptoms including sudden deafness. I think the nausea resulted from having that foreign taste (some say metallic, but to me it's more salty)
persisting in the mouth. Peppermints or licorice helped me. I don't know if I got used to the taste or if
things changed..my ability to perceive sweetness seems to come and go. As does
the pain along the jaw line.

I'm interested in seeing if the radiation will have any positive effect on taste in the long run. I am amazed at how the brain works as
I've found myself tasting something that doesn't taste right and making a mental adjustment. My brain, bless it's plasticity,
seems to "add sugar" as necessary.
