Title: Cochlear BAHA seminar
Post by: leapyrtwins on August 19, 2009, 04:54:43 pm
For those in the Chicago area, I just wanted to pass along some info. I got from one of the Cochlear reps who was exhibiting @ the ANA symposium.

Cochlear is holding a free BAHA seminar on September 16th @ Marriott Courtyard, 6 Trans Am Plaza, Oak Brook from 3 to 5 pm or 6 to 8 pm

The seminar will include a discussion on how the BAHA system works and explain the minor surgical procedure necessary for the implant.  In addition, Cochlear will have demos to try (I'm guessing the new BP100).

They want to make sure they have sufficient room for all who want to attend, so if you decide to go, please call Maureen Winter, RN at 312-519-6354 or email her mwinter@cochlear.com  Please tell her you got the information from me.

Maureen is Cochlear's Upper Central Territory Manager and I met her at the symposium during my gig as a Cochlear Volunteer.

Jan,

thanks for sharing this... after the seminar, can you or another attendee keep us updated in this thread on it? I'm sure that many that can't attend would appreciate the updated info......

The New Jersey Chapter of ANA hosted a BAHA symposium this past April -- a local doctor and a Cochlear representative spoke, and the Cochlear rep. brought along some BAHA headbands for brief demonstrations. I was the only BAHA wearer in the audience, so I got to serve in a "show-and-tell" capacity. I found the program to be very interesting and informative and learned several things I didn't know.

I would really encourage anyone who's contemplating the BAHA route to attend the Chicago area symposium that Jan has described. BAHA wearers should go, too -- you'll probably pick up some facts and will be able to provide some first-hand experience to other attendees.

I will try to attend - heck, Cochlear might even ask me to go to show off my head and give my two cents about the Divino  ;D

Joyce (aka Jeepers) told me she might attend this seminar also.

I was asked to go to West Lafayette, IN for one of the Cochlear seminars that was taking place today, but I was unable to go.

Greg -

she'd probably know me as Jan - we didn't have our forum names on our ID cards, although we wrote them there ourselves.

I was Maureen's official volunteer, but my job (and a fun one it was) was to just be available to talk about and show my Divino to others; I didn't have to staff the booth with her.  I basically just got to hang out at the symposium and talk to others - and on occasion I sent people to see Maureen, and another rep who was there with her, to try out the BP100.   I made an exception for my partner-in-crime Lori though and actually escorted her to the booth where we both tried out the BP100.  Yes, Lori, you are special  ;)

When the time comes for my BP100, trust me, I'll make the best deal I can.  Anyone want to buy a slightly used Divino??  Going cheap!  :D  I want to use the proceeds for my upgrade.
