Title: Mark Ruffalo, AN survivor, on Fox tonight
Post by: Sue on April 25, 2008, 11:30:38 am
Just wanted to mention, to those that don't know this, that  actor Mark Ruffalo, has had AN surgery.  And, in case, you want to see one of the movies he made after his surgery, he is in "13 Going on 30" with Jennifer Garner tonight on Fox.  You can "google" his name and acoustic neuroma and you will find some information about his story.  He is one of the very few "celebrities" (besides Cap't Deb and LADavid, of course!), that we know of,  to have an AN.

Cheers!

I love that movie.  Didn't realize Mark was in it.  I'll have to check it out again.  Did he do the movie before or after his surgery?

His surgery I think was in 2001.  Most of the films he's known for (13 Going 0n 30, Zodiac, the one with Reese Witherspoon) all came after.

Thanks, David, that is pretty impressive.  Especially since mine left me disabled!!  I admire anyone who can go back to what they did before and those who find something new.  Unfortunately, all of my talents are dealing with crowds, standing up and being in places that I don't like to be any longer.

HEY! I'm no celebrity, I suffer from a serious disease called FPD.  Flamboyant Personality Disorder. I should be locked up.  I'm a danger to myself and society.  Thank God I never permitted myself to breed.

The movie is very cute, especially the "Thriller" part!

The movie IS very cute.  I've seen it before, but I watched it again tonight.

So, does anyone know if Mark had any side-effects from his surgery ???

I didn't notice any facial nerve issues or drunken walk.  In fact, he looks great.

I was just wondering if he had SSD or anything.

According to this article (http://www.jsonline.com/story/?id=181566) he's SSD (left) and a month after surgery was "struggling with major complications" and it was about that time that 9/11 happened and he left New York, but it doesn't say what the complications were.  I'm sure we can all guess, though.  ;)  Interesting article.

Awww Capt Deb you will always be a celebrity.  Who could be more famous than the Capt of our ship?

According to the articles I've read, Mr. Ruffalo, had facial parylasis and he took a break from acting for over a year.  He was pretty worried that this was going to affect his acting career, but he healed and it all came back.  He does have SSD.  Don't know about any balance issues.  Too bad he doesn't come on here and give us the lowdown.  HEY MARK, where are ya?

While we are on the topic of 'Actors' my daughter is out in LA pursuiing that career. No AN but I just had mine removed on 3/31/08. She was so intrigued by this whole AN thing she did an informational speech on it in one of her college classes. She got a shining 'A' on it! Here's to another positive outcome to having an AN ..(of course, the Prof probably didn't know a thing about it, therefore an A was inevitible ..haha..jk)

Can you tell that he had any facial weakness? I missed it.

You know, that was one of the reasons I asked about his side-effects.

At one point during the movie, I thought I could see a little facial weakness on his right side.  But then a little later, I thought I noticed some on his left side.
It also seemed like they didn't really do any close ups of his face, at least not unless he had his face turned to the side.

But in the end, I thought that I was just imagining things because I knew he had had an AN.  I figured I was reading something into his face that just wasn't there ::)

Anyone else notice anything  ???

I worked with Mark for a few days on Zodiac.  In person there was absolutely nothing different about Mark's facial movements.  I think filming 13 Going on 30 was a year earlier but by the time I saw him -- there was really nothing.  Of course I wasn't looking for anything.

David -

good to know.

If I had not known that Mark had been treated for an AN, I'd have paid no attention one way or the other to his face - other than to note that he's very good looking  ;D

Like I suspected, it was most likely just my imagination.
