Hi everybody,
I just received a call from the Gammaknife Centre at Toronto Western, I have a consultation on Oct. 28/09. My Neurosurgeon will be attending in addition to a team of doctors . Wish me luck? I will keep you posted.

Vivian ~
Congratulations on securing a consultation date at the Toronto GammaKnife Centre. Have your questions ready (and written down), take notes (or bring a friend who will do it for you). Most of all, remain calm and focused. We'll look forward to learning the results of the consult on the 28th.
I added your consultation to our 'AN Treatment Calendar': http://my.calendars.net/an_treatments/d28/10/2009?authenticate=&display=M&style=B (http://my.calendars.net/an_treatments/d28/10/2009?authenticate=&display=M&style=B)

Late to the post.
Sorry the tumor has grown and the watch and wait protocol is no more.
I had a consult at the Gamma Knife Centre in February. The center is quite nice (the appointment rooms are rather nasty though!). I mightn't have appreciated the bed side manner of the radiation oncologist I met, but appreciated his advice (just keep on waiting, and do something when the hearing is gone and/or the tumor grows). I didn't get any comfort from him on 'long-term' outcomes of radiation (> 20 years) which still bothers me and leaves lingering thoughts. (Those doctors see dire cases every day - so compared to my small benign tumor, I guess it didn't cause them much concern.) I am sure I will be back for another consultation ... just hoping it will be several years away.
It will be nice you have your neurosurgeon going with you. (I went by myself - in hindsight, a bad idea.) They have a senior neurosurgeon on the team as well - it would be an interesting conversation to hear the various doctor's opinions.

Good luck, Vivian! I think GK is a great treatment choice. It's time to put that freeloading tumor on Death Row!
Best wishes,

Hi Phyl and GM
Thank you both. It's so good to have so many responses and know that there is such great support. I am thinking that after the consultuation I will be given an actual treatment date.
I wil post that as soon as I have it.
