Title: extreme ringing
Post by: kahekili on September 16, 2009, 03:52:26 pm
Aloha:
Please someone.  Any suggestions on how to deal with this ringing in the ear associated with AN?  It is about to drive me crazy.  Hearing aids? Surgery?  I will trust the "patients" more than I trust the docs in Hawaii right now.  I am about to freak out.

Mahalo.

At times my tinnitus is also very loud, and other times low.  When it gets very loud I have found using an Ipod to listen to music makes the ringing calm down.  Hope it works for you at well.

Unfortunately, in my line of work...I am having to "entertain" guests etc. at major restaurants and events.  The "roar of the ring" (as I call it) is as if it wants to knock me over.  Is there a product in existence or study that perhaps could be placed into the ear to neutralize this constant sound?  A special hearing aid?

Thank you for your suggestion.

There are musician's plugs that decrease the # of decibels - they can decrease by 15 or 25, depending on your needs.  They are fitted specifically to your ear canal.
I got mine at an ENT dept. at a University Hospital- it was a bit pricey   ~ $75. - $100.00 (I can't remember).  These won't help stop the tinnitus, but it helps with noise level.
Always good thoughts,  Nancy
