Title: Symptoms Changing
Post by: megmas on September 01, 2015, 07:01:47 am
Hi Everyone,

I was diagnosed with 1.1 cm AN in February 2015.  I am on the wait and watch status with Dr. Tamargo at Johns Hopkins.  I am due for my next MRI in November.

I just went in for another hearing test last week, as I want to look into getting a hearing aid.  My word recognition with masking went from 82% in January down to 56%.  I'm also noticing a fullness in my ear which wasn't present before.

Could the above indicate that the AN is growing?  My ENT said not necessarily...

Thanks!!

True. Might not be growing but probably is. Even if it isn't the damage to the nerve continues.

Mine grew 20% in 6 months between diagnosis and 2d MRI but my hearing on the AN side was already gone by the time I was diagnosed.

Plenty of information on hearing devices in the forum on hearing issues:

Your ENT is correct.  Variable symptoms and tumor growth need not be related.  My symptoms vary and my tumor hasn't grown.  The only way to know if your tumor has grown is to get an MRI.  You'll find out in November.
