I have my own personal list of people who attend the symposium regularly but not on the forum here.    One couple from MI said last time was their 9th one.    She had the AN.    Know of 7 people/ or couples who have come 2 or more prior to this one and aren't here or were a long time ago.
There has been mention of it on the ANA facebook too but not sure who might be coming of them      Several drs have been there regularly, including the HEI drs.     Dr Slattery now recognizes me from previous symposiums and he is wonderful to talk to.  Dr Ravi Samy was in on my first AN surgery while as a fellow in Iowa City.     My surgeon says I am to tell him hello from him.

Cheryl

Will you and that marvelous spouse of your's be there? I can't keep up with who noted they were coming from the forums......  Totally agree about Dr. Slattery.  Not my doc but met him at the last symposium and since then, have had communications with him.... great guy!

Is anyone up for organizing a Forumites supper together on Thursday night?  I really physically probably should not take on this responsibility, but I would sure like to have an additional time to see everyone.

If anyone is familiar with the area near the symposium hotel, can you suggest a quiet restaurant (or one that has a separate room) where we could gather?  We gathered in Chicago on Thursday night, but unfortunately the restaurant was lovely but noisy so it made talking difficult.

Clarice, Thanks for mentioning this .  I was going to post something about it, too.  We aren't leaving till Weds afternoon so will get in Thurs afternoon as it is not going to be an all the way trip with no stop.   I wonder if the hotel would have an idea of a good place?   Could we let the symposium planner know?  They might be able to ask the hotel where a good place is.  Anyway, we will miss the friends who came last time - and can't wait to meet the new friends this time!

OK, I inadvertently made a connection on the Chicago Thursday night supper gathering place.  Did not mean to imply that anyone was responsible for choosing a noisy restaurant.  As I remember there were not that many choices for quiet places near the Drake ...... being the hopping city Chicago is in that area.  Most people enjoy loud music to make them feel "with it."  One of the local AN gals knew the food was good there and each could have a choice for type of food so that's how we ended up going there.  Nothing wrong with the restaurant, just not an easy place to talk with each other.

(Sorry, Kay!)

As a newbie, I am attending my first symposium in Cincy.  I am really looking forward to meeting some other forumites.  Although I live in Ohio, my knowledge of restaurants in Cincy is totally nil.  See you all there.

I'll see what I can find out about a quiet restaurant in the area. I'm originally from there and have friends and family there - surely they will know something! Thursday night - would be great fun to begin the weekend getting to meet you all! I'll get back with info soon. :)

I posted on the other link that my husband and I are attending the symposium.  I can't wait to meet all my new AN friends!  :D We will be starting out in Ada, Ohio to see my son on his 30th birthday June 16 and traveling that day to Cincinnati.  (I hope I'm typing correctly, as my right eye is watering terribly from my recent parotid gland surgery.  Staring at the computer screen is driving it crazy!)  Hoping to see you all soon.  And Kay, I wish you could be there.  I'm thinking about you.  Sandy

I'm looking forward to my first symposium.  I'm flying in on Thurs. & attending the local group leaders/facilitators mtg. Friday Morning.
I'm considering taking the TANK 2X express bus from CVG to Cincinnati.  It looks like a reasonable walk from the bus, $1.75 fare-- ...
Also considering going to the Sunday afternoon Reds v. Bluejays game...

Phyl, your job is to make sure all those from the Forum who are attending this year attend again in 2013.  I am 100% commited to attending in 2013 and don't want to miss a soul.

Hi!   I'm just seeing this for the first time.   I've been in Istanbul and then went in to surgery two days later with Dr. Ducic.

I will be there but didn't know that we should arrive Thursday night.   I booked the room and tickets back in January.   Am staying at the  Hiltion and cell phone can be shared via PM/email.

My flight arrives from Baltimore around 1 pm.   Will find out how to get to the hotel one of these days.   Maybe the Hilton has a shuttle.

Hugs to all....can't wait to meet you.  This weekend I know is going to fly by.
Mei Mei

(Hi MeiMei... thrilled you are definately coming. No one HAS to arrive Thurs... some are, some aren't so either which way, will be fantastic to FINALLY meet you.  BTW, no sharing of personal contact info in posts/threads.... but you are more than welcome to share in PM/emails. Thanks for understanding. See you in Cinci! Phyl)

Hi all,

I'm sad to say we cannot come this time.  I have truly enjoyed the last 2 and everyones love and encouragement meant so much.  Taylor (Ashley) is doing well.  She finished the spring semester at SIU-E and is halfway through nursing school; 2 years to go.  He surgeries didn't give her the smile we had hoped for but the symetry is great at rest.

I'll miss seeing you all again and hope to make the next one.  Sorry Phyl.  I know the bad girls club just won't be the same.  LOL

Kathy

PS..The new picture is just a week old.

The pic looks great! Look at you 2!  And yes..... I was really hoping to have a lovely reunion of the "bad girls club".... you have NO idea!  :'(  But, truly understand!  It won't be the same without you and Ash........ will do some Piratitude for you both!  MAJOR kudos to Ash for her schooling! She's going to make a fantastic nurse... for ALL she has been through.... she will truly understand and demonstrate the compassion it takes for nursing as one that has been through SO much!  I'm so dang proud of her (and you!) Go ahead and embarrass her for me by sharing this.... she's fun to make blush!  :-*

DonnaLynn..... oy, what can I say?  One of these days........ truly.... one of these days. My love to you, to Jim and my very dear V!  :-*  One of these days......

Hi Kathy, I am sorry to hear that you won't be there.     So great to hear of how school is going for Taylor and she will be a super nurse.      It does make a difference when one knows what it feels like to be on the other side.          I know the no good smile is not fun but just to look ok at rest is a big deal too as I deal with that also.       I hope it all goes well for her from here on out and she is a super young woman!      Hugs to you both!              Cheryl R

The symposium link on the home page might have some answers.    The airport is over stateline in kentucky and not sure how much taxi or shuttle costs.      Most will stay at the hotel where the symposium is.       Someone might be interested in sharing a room.     Judy or the event planner might know.                   Have to go so more if needed later.       Cheryl R

Back again.    Went for ice cream with our neighbors.        I am not sure what other hotels are near the symposium and if all the special rate rooms would be taken.   It is in downtown area so may or may not be some cheaper hotels nearby.     The rate for the symposium is higher now than when first could register.     It does include ones food from Fri eve on if one goes to a Fri eve session thru Sun brunch.              I did not look at the symposium info on the home page also.              Time is going fast if one wants to come at last minute.                      Cheryl R

Host hotel is the Hilton Netherlands in Cinci. I believe the taxi/shuttle from airport is approx $50-$60 round trip.

DonnaLynn, you KNOW I'd love to FINALLY meet you but only if things allowable on your end. :)

jennifer, looking forward to meeting you!

ANA still following this thread. Trying to confirm if they do, in fact, have something in mind for us (ie: an event).  They did make "ANA Discussion Forum Member" ribbons again for our nametags that we can put on if we want.  By using them, will be great to identify those of you here  that will be in attendance in Cinci.  If my old age memory serves me right, based on conversations with the ANA, I believe they are also, once again, setting up lunch table for the Forumites (not sure if Friday or Saturday). Please keep an eye open for it. At the last symposium, many of the dr's found us at the Forumite tables and joined us for lunch!

Hope it becomes a tradition so those of us who plan to attend in 2013 and future years can enjoy it  ;D

Hello Cincinnati-bound folks,

My sister says that the Palomino is nearby and probably our best bet for a quiet place that has personality. She said to ask for the back of the restaurant, past the bar. It is a fairly high priced place, as I remember, unless it's happy hour. I would think the hotel could also give ideas for quiet places also...there may be someplace quiet there, especially on a Thursday.

My flight arrives at 7:30, so I won't make it down to the Hilton probably till around 8:30. I wonder if anyone else is arriving around 7:30....? If so, send me a message.

Can't wait to meet you all! See you soon.

Okay, Kaybo . . .

Do I sense you sucking up to the Administrator who used to be a Moderator?  Always has to be a good triplet  ::)

Seriously, though, I can't promise to be good and I'm pretty damn certain that Lori can't either, so you'll have to be good for both of us.

I'm with Mei Mei - and lots of others here - praying for your mom and your family.

And we'll just have to make a pact that we'll be at the 2013 Symposium, come hell or high water (probably hell in my case and Lori's)  >:D

I'm going to miss seeing everyone this year; makes me want to cry  :'(  You'll all have to do something bad in honor of me and my partner in crime, Lori.

Take lots of pictures!!

Barb - was just thinking about Seattle today.  Hope to get back there for a vacation in the very near future - if I can get ahead financially.  Actually I've been thinking about the possibility of relocating once my twins graduate from high school in a few years and Seattle is on my short list.  What a great place!

Phy is definitely the one to keep you guys in line; should be a little easier this year without Lori, Kay, me, and Capt. Deb  ;D

Have fun!

More hugglez spread throughout the place.... forumite get together yesterday was nice/good to see everyone. Banquet tonight.... and for those of you not here, your good ears must be buzzing cuz we are missing you all more than you know... yeah, that means you, you mischief makers (J-K-L!)

Yes, she said it right   We are missing you all.  Just now at the banquet Cheryl R said that she's been to five symposiums and this was the quietest one so far.   It's coz the troublemakers aren't here and she missed them.    This is my first meeting and said we'd toast them.   I'll send some pics somehow when I get home.

Toast tomorrow at breakfast to all of you we miss.   Phyl said she had to focus but we'll do it at brunch.

Guess what happened to me?   My number was called at the raffle Fri. afternoon and I had to go up on stage to get a Flip video camera.   I had never heard of this before and I guess because I was focused the last couple of years on getting AN information.   I wasn't sure if I really won because I'm never sure if I heard things right.   Didn't want to go up and claim the prize if it was the wrong number but he said it was right and handed me the camera.   Whoopie!   I hardly ever win raffles!   I really felt good.   I wished all of you could get a prize.   Actually the prize is just being here.

Good night all you Forumites!
See you when we get home.

Hello to everyone!

Wrapped up my first symposium and it was all I had hoped it would be.  Phyl, Mei Mei, Cheryl, Tim, daniel, Barb, ombrerose (real name escapes me!), clarice, mizb??, and so many others....how nice to finally see you eye to eye. As I said over the weekend, my cyberfamily has been a lifeline to me and I love you all.

I took way less pics than I intended so I am anxious to see everyone's. I also am quite limited on uploading experience so any helpful hints will be appreciated.

My husband had a great time too and has mentioned L.A. Twice since we have been home.....hmmmmm. Maybe we will be going in 2013! I sure hope so!

I don't know, LA is LOTS more appealing than Cincinnati and I bet I can get a much cheaper flight. For those of who ALWAYS have to pay to fly...any Symposium is a HUGE expense. It was going to cost me almost $600 for 1 ticket this time...for those of you that can drive feel fortunate! Maybe that's why it is on the West coast next time - spreading the love!

This was my first Symposium and I enjoyed every moment of it.  I have been to many conferences in my life and the ANers were the nicest of them all.

I found out that Kathy M and I went to the same elementary school even though it has been almost 50 years since I have lived there.

I also was able to put faces to the Forumites and to meet Clarise and Cheryl, who were both so supportive during my surgery last year.  I also found out that Phyllis wears the cruise director title very well.

When I lived in California for a couple of years, Los Angeles was not one of my favorite cities either, but I plan on being there after enjoying this one so much.

LA sounds doable...will hopefully be able to turn the symposium trip into a "see the sites" road trip with my sweetie. Always looking to double up on the fun.

Sorry, I was a total fail at the picture taking thing. I would see someone, get involved in a conversation and totally forget about the recording the moment for prosperity.

Moment of truth... after two years of doing the Arkansas support group with no real growth in the numbers, I went to Cincinnati with the intention of telling the ANA folks that it was time to step back. There wasn't any lightning strike to change my mind... just a series of conversations, almost everyone of them that included a mention of how much the support group had helped them at one time or another. Those conversations swirling around in my brain during the plan ride home made me realize it's not about big numbers or growth (although that would be nice). It's making a difference in the life of that one person that shows up to the meeting. You really can't ask for anything better....touch one life.

Recommitting for two more years as support group leader.

See you all in LA...

..thanks for being...t

I miss all of you terribly.   It was such a wonderful weekend full of nurturing people and I'm not around that too often.  I can't tell you how good that feels.   My doctor was on the plane ride home and hardly said a word to me except when I went to the bathroom.  I saw him at the gate and decided to talk to him on board.  He wasn't interested.  I saw him when it was time to get the luggage out of the plane checked luggage and he ignored me and kept his cell phone close to his head.   Sorry I ever went to Johns Hopkins.   My biggest regret was that I didn't go to Dr. Friedman out at HEI.     I didn't have an aide I could depend on, but she's worked out and I trust her.  My doctor scared me and told me that I might have a stroke if I didn't do it right away.   This isn't what Dr. Selesnick told me up in NY.
That's why I moved so quickly with Hopkins.

Cheryl,   I hope you are having a nice touring vacation.  Amish country is full of nice pies.   Eat em up!

This was my first symposium and it was amazing! Meeting forum people -Phyl, Cathy, Chery, Mei Mei, Clarice and so many others, hanging with my fellow ANA NYC members, sharing stories, laughing and most of all learning. I cannot believe how much information I came home with. My 2 15 minute sessions one on one with Dr.Levine for my eyes and Dr. Niparko for many various issues were invaluable. These doctors genuinely care! Oh, and of course Dr. Tew, who joined us for dinner one evening, let everyone share their headache problems and then offer lots of good advice.   Meeting the ANA folks, especially Judy and Melanie, who helps me with my support group issues, meeting with many other support group leaders- I am still overwhelmed with the experience. @Migdol- I am so glad you are continuing as a support group leader. Numbers don't matter, helping someone does:)

Starting my piggybank now for 2013 in LA:)

I intentionally sat in on the Headache workshop, run by Dr. Brendan Kelley (UC Dept of Neurology).  He did explain about the different kinds of headaches and what kinds of remedies work for each type and how we need to work with our docs as each is unique to our own journeys... and when it comes to meds... and it total "trial and error".  *pulls out notes from workshop* He did note about life style modifications like proper sleep, eating properly, stress mgt, biofeedback, identifying environmental triggers, chemical changes in body (ie: menopause, etc).  He noted 3 basic types of headaches (tension, occipital neuralgia and cervialgenic -- upper neck)  and for us to work with our neurologist carefully to help identify what you may have and best ways to treat. I have more notes but not enough coffee in me to write it.

Mei Mei hon!

I'm sorry to hear this...... as you know, Dr. Claus was on my flight (she was right behind you in security line at Cinci airport!) and was tolerating me embarrassing her at the gate.... but also needed to speak to her when we landed in Boston... and gave her a big hug of appreciation for ALL she did this weekend.... and for me.  I know some of the drs pulled "attitude" this weekend but I found most were approachable, esp. when we had questions.  I'm sorry you ran into this...... but hoping the many hugs and smiles and shoulder pats and giggles I shared with you will help the cause. I'm tickled you got to speak to Dr. Claus (a goal of your's) and plu-eeeeeeze let me know your plans for Boston in 2 wks. I'll rally some of the gang.

Hang in there my beautiful one!  You truly are an amazing treasure and what a delight to meet you! :)

xoxoxooxoxoxo and all that gushy stuff!
Phyl

My doctor was on the plane ride home and hardly said a word to me except when I went to the bathroom.  I saw him at the gate and decided to talk to him on board.  He wasn't interested.  I saw him when it was time to get the luggage out of the plane checked luggage and he ignored me and kept his cell phone close to his head.   Sorry I ever went to Johns Hopkins.   My biggest regret was that I didn't go to Dr. Friedman out at HEI.     Hugs, Mei Mei

Mei Mei, I'm so sorry to hear your surgeon was so inattentive.  I ran into that same sort of 'uninterested' type of response from several other surgeon's I met.  One even told me, it's no big deal really.  What!?  I wanted to run out of that office.  In fact, I think I did.  I have to comment on Dr. Freidman ... isn't he the best?!  He doesn't come across like many neuro's.  He has personality galore and truly cares about his patients.  I feel so blessed to have had him on my 'team'.  Sounds like it may be time for you to start looking for another doctor.  Anyway, can't wait until next years symposium!  I sure hope nothing happens to keep me from coming.  I sure want to be there!!

I'm enjoying reading all the updates and hope someone posts pictures soon.

Good grief!!!  How did all of you have time to be on the forum during the symposium!   :o  When I wasn't hugging or being hugged, listening, or talking, I was asleep!!!

What an amazing time, as usual.  Yes, it was quieter in the sense of less mischief, but it was also rewarding and satisfying in a very new and different way.  Lest I leave someone out, I will not name names but the most rewarding part was reconnecting with and meeting all of you on the forum.  What an inspiration you are to not only me personally, but to many others as well.

Tim, I can fully identify with what you mean about if we only help one person, it is worth maintaining the support group.  I keep thinking someone younger needs to pick up the baton on our WV group, but until they do I will do my best to provide a safe haven for those who need/want it.

Just cannot let this go by .....  as Kay already knows I have a special attachment to Dr. Friedman ..... as I'm sure all of his patients do, I might add.  It is a rare surgeon who truly cares for each and every patient, while being an outstanding physician.  Not only did he treat me like a queen, but he was readily available to totally unknown patients and looking at their MRIs, etc.

Lastly, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know a whole lot of totally new people and spreading the word about the value of this forum.  Hopefully some of them will join us (or make themselves known) soon.

Hope to make it to LA ..... have to wait and see.

Clarice

WOW, being a newbie and a forum lurker for 6 mos(this is my 2nd post) my wife and I jumped at the chance to go to this symposium.  It was all we could have hoped for and more. Questions were answered, choices were presented, and people were so affirming. Nice to see so many people in the same boat with such positive attitudes. Cant wait for the next meeting. Our only regret was coming in on Fri noon and having to leave at 11:00 on Sun. Thanks all for your help with everything we ANers have to go through. Good news upon reurning is from the Dr.....see you in 12mos for a follow up MRI. Exactly what we were told by the Dr's we consulted with in Cincy. Back on the Harley and still loving life.

I'm still floating around and feeling empowered by being surrounded with all those people in the same boat.   Everybody that I talked with didn't need an explanation of what I was going through and have gone through.   It's been a long dark tunnel but we are making it with each other's help.  I'm thinking about each and every one of you that I met on the Forum and in Cinci.  including the wonderful docs that took the time and caring to come out and share quality time with us.   I'm going to try to get Dr. Ducic on the LA Symposium for 2012.

I repeat the voices about Dr. Friedman.   This was one of the few regrets I've had in life.   I went to Irvine back in 1989 to fix my paralyzed vocal cords and could have easily gone out to LA but I have this burden although I love him very much but I am living alone with my soon to be 97 year old father.   This wasn't the case back in 1989 when I flew on the red eye to meet Dr. Crumly for my vocal cords.   This is a caveat:  take care of yourself first and the support will follow.   My father would have done fine on the East Coast without me, but I didn't do that well on the East Coast for surgery.  HEI is cutting edge.

Hugs to all my AN Friends and Family,
Mei Mei

Hi all,

Just wanted to post here to echo the same comments...what a wonderful weekend!  My husband and I are so happy that we decided to attend.  In addition to the vast amount of information and support offered, I truly felt that this weekend helped me with emotional healing as well!  A whole weekend off of not having to explain 'wonky head', fatigue and SSD  ;D  It really was incredible to meet so many caring and supportive patients and healthcare providers!  Congrats to ANA for a well executed program!

Dr Friedman sure is amazing!  I was so excited to see him again a year post op...his big heart never ceases to amaze me.

I wish I was able to meet all of you forumites...but we couldn't make all of the meeting with having a 1 year old  ;D  As for now, we are definitely planning on bringing him to the LA meeting...he can see where he was born!

ANA sure brought together a really great group of folks!

Best to you all!
Kris

If any of you have pics you want to upload, please PM/email me here and I will create an albumn so we can consolidate pics to one location for ease of access for others to see, if you are interested.......

Hi Everyone!  I'm late in posting after the symposium.  I was really tired Monday and spent the day not doing much but resting.  Then last night, Tuesday, we went to Pittsburgh to see Jimmy Buffett and got home very late as we are around 2-2 and a half hours away.  Sooo, I'm finally catching up here.  I have to echo what everyone else has said.  The symposium was great and full of information.  It was so good to meet Phyl, Cheryl, Tim, Glenn, Kris, Mei Mei, Dave, and so many others.  Phyl, you always do a great job and I enjoyed being there with you.  You did great at our little hospitality room get-together.  Glenn, my husband and I enjoyed talking with you every time we ran into you.  Dave, we also enjoyed visiting with the "Ohio State" fan.  (Remember, Rodriguez and Stewart are looking for jobs!  ;D ) Cheryl, you were the first one I met (after registering and meeting Phyl) and you helped ease us into the symposium.  We had such a good conversation with sharing information.  After her interesting AN story, I looked forward to meeting Kris and enjoyed talking with her.  Thanks Kris for sharing your information about the Ponto.  Mei Mei, we got a charge out of you and the camera.  I'm glad you finally got it charged.  :D  I hope your pictures and video come out.  As I am not very good with names and did not get everyone's names, I am so glad to have met you and so many other really nice people.  I also appreciated the doctors taking time to talk to you when you stopped them to ask a question.  I was having a problem with my scar from the parotid gland tumor and asked a few of the doctors about it.  Even though this was an AN meeting, they all were so kind as to offer their opinion of the problem.  I will be going back to Pittsburgh tomorrow for a check-up and hope to get this scar healing better, as it has been 7 weeks, today.  For me, the AN surgery post experience and healing was a lot easier.  Well, I've rattled on long enough.

Mei Mei,

So sorry to hear of your experience with your surgeon.  I have to echo Cheri's feelings about the surgeons at HEI.  Dr. Brackmann performed my middle fossa surgery nearly four years ago, and each time I see him, or e-mail him regarding my progress, it's like talking to a dear old friend.  Since I live on the east coast, John's Hopkins was one of the centers I considered.  I'm glad I decided to make the trip to House.

I know this Mary Ann.   I spoke with Dr. Friedman twice and he said if there's anything he can do for me let him know.   He wanted to do Middle Fossa and as you know I had the retrosigmoid.   Even talked to a Willing to talk person near where I live and she encouraged me to go to LA.   Back in 1989 I went out there for another surgery but this is more than 20 years later and my father is living with me.  I was so torn and just bit the bullet and went on to Hopkins.  One of my worst decisions.   Come over and visit some time.  I live near downtown Bethesda.
Hugs,
Mei Mei

Okay, so where are all the pictures  ???

I just returned from a short Forum sabbatical, compliments of a huge storm here in Illinois that knocked our power out for a couple of days and I was SO hoping to see some pictures.

Anyone???

And Tim, I'm glad to hear you are renewing your term as a local group leader.  Kudos to you  ;D

Jan (thinking about LA, but definitely not sold on it).  Maybe I'll start my own symposium in Boston in 2012  >:D

Dear Jan,
I consider myself a computer person and can't figure out this Flip Camera that I won on Friday night.   I will send the pictures from my Panasonic Lumix to this link with in the next few hours.   Glad to hear you are back in business.  Nothing worse than problems with the utilities.  We were without electricity for one week in Jan and two weeks in Sept a few weeks ago.

I am bringing my Flip back to Boston in two weeks.

OK, here goes a try at the only picture my husband took at the symposium.  It was taken after the closing Brunch.  Several Forum attendees had already scurried off to check out from the hotel.  Many more of us were there.  I know Phyllis was busy taking pictures, as well as others.  Hopefully more will show up soon.

Yeah Mei Mei, I am with you on this site not being very user friendly....when it comes to photos anyways!!!   I swear it took me FOREVER to get my profile pic on here and not have it be huge.    I am pretty sure you have to add the pics through photobucket.  Is that what you tried?   Like you upload them to your photobucket account, then somehow post them on here.

Maybe Clarice has a good description since she at least got one on here  ;D

Good luck with the Flip thing!!

Yes, (thanks to Phyl for reminding me!) you do have to upload the picture(s) to your Photobucket account and then insert the link from there to the image here.  Not sure you can do videos on here.  You may have to provide a link here to go outside of the Forum for that.

Certainly not the expert on all this!   :o

Here are instructions that I believe were originally posted by Jan. Maybe a new thread could be posted as a sticky to keep them at the top of the page. This seems to come up fairly often, and it's not an intuitive process.

Open an account (free) at www.photobucket.com and upload your picture/s from your hard drive.  To update your Profile picture:

Once your picture is uploaded to Photobucket, click on the link below your photo that says "HTML Code" and right click to copy
Open your profile in the forum and click on the link on the left side that says "Forum Profile Information"
Click on the button that says "I have my own photo"
Right click to paste the HTML code link where indicated on the profile page

That should work.

If you want to embed a photo into a posting on your thread, you open the photo in PhotoBucket and copy and paste the "IMG Code" right into the posting.

As for Mei Mei, I got an email from her today that had a link to pictures, but it was some 3rd party site asking for my cell phone number.  So I didn't do that and sent her another email to let her know.  Poor girl is trying to get us those pics, but something isn't panning out too easy  :(

Hello all, I just now finally for the first time read this thread...it sounds like you all had fun.  LA in 2013 sounds definitely doable for me (I live next state over!) so hopefully I'll get to go and meet you all there! Would love to put a face to the names.  I also did a self imposed sabbatical from this forum like Jan did, mainly because I just came back from a week in Hawaii! Thanks to everyone for posting the pictures.  But you all can notice that I am still dealing with some facial paralysis from the parotid gland tumor surgery.  With the AN, I had a little and it was back to normal in a month and a half.  I am now at 8 weeks with this one and it is slow going. (The AN surgery was easier!)  I have to remind myself that I had 2 major surgeries 5 months apart (both from schwannoma cells) and that my face went through a lot with this latest one.  The tumor was beneath the facial nerve and sticky, making it a difficult surgery.  The facial nerve was left intact, so it should heal. At my check-up last week, the doctor thought I might be a little further along, but it does take some of us longer.  So, I'm trying to be patient and giving it to God.  Seeing as I did not get to Jackie Diels session at the symposium, I'm going to send for the cd of the session.  Thanks for listening to my rattling along.  Sometimes we need people who have been through similar things to listen to us vent some.

Laura is the local Metro Boston ANA Support Group leader. Her user name on the forums is MZB475.  You can send her a PM/Email here and you all can share personal contact info in emails to catch up for your time here in town.  Hoping next Sunday works out.  Send me PM/email with details for you in this area (you know which area I am in) and Laura, as you know, isn't far from me at all, so we can try to coordinate.  Not sure of Laura's schedule so can can respond on that! Would LOVE to see you again! Been too long! ;)

;D  Yes, looking forward to getting together with you and Lauren somewhere on the road back from York Beach on Friday.   I have the feeling that Kathy won't want to stay overnight in Maine and will just beeline it back to Mass.  Can you give us a name of a restaurant to meet at off of 95 or 128?

I saw a clip on NBC Nightly News tonight about a doctor from Minn that is helping Palestinians to hear again.   I wish that I could work with him.   I am trying on doing some volunteer work with the hearing impaired in my retirement.  I'm starting back at the gym next week.

Great fun to "see" everyone again! Thanks for posting. Clarice, Truman is such a very nice man and that is a sweet pic of you both. Tell him "hello" from me!
