Attention all NY and NJ ANers (and anyone else who is interested)
Debbi and I were talking the other day and finally came up with what we hope will be a good date for a NY/NJ Luncheon. We are planning for July 11 at Brendan's on West 35th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues again - it's a central location for everyone coming in on mass transit. This the same place we met in January and the price of lunch was decent, it was fairly quiet a good time was had by all. I hope we can get a good crowd together again. Please let us know if you can attend.

Oh wow, I wish I could go. I love coming to NY (been there a grand total of TWICE now). And I'm great at crashing other AN parties in different parts of the country! (boston area in spring).
If I weren't heading out for vacation on the 11th, I'd be there.
Have a great time!

You think that is too far for me for a day trip??
K ::)
-
Keri,
Sorry you can't make it, we'd love to have you with us. Maybe next time. ;D
K - Maybe if you take the red-eye you can make it -- after lunch, we can take a ride on the Circle Line (a boat that circles NYC) just to make the trip a little more worthwhile, and then put you back on the plane and send you back home what a whirlwind day that would be! Just kidding -- I think it just might be a little too far for a day trip for you. We'd love to have you too though. ;D

Count me in!

Glad to hear you'll make the luncheon. Hopefully.we'll get a good group together.
See you sooon!
Wendy

Thanks for getting the ball rolling on this, Wendy! Neal, it will be good to see you again. I'll pm Nancy and Joe to see if they can make it. Oh, and Mickey (Mike I) too! Let's spread the word!!

Hi,
I've just returned from three weeks in France and am getting caught up on e-mails, etc. Thanks to Wendy and Debbi for organizing another NY/NJ get together. July 11 sounds great to me, and I'll be looking forward to seeing everyone again.

3 weeks in France - boy, I am SO jealous!
Wendy -
you know I'd be there if I could.
Hope you all have a tremendous time. Take pictures, please.

Hi Catherine!
Three weeks in France sounds fantastic -- Parlez-vous français? I acutally only know a smattering of French. My mom sometimes spoke it to us (she was born in Quebec but move to the States as a child). My parents convinced me to take Spanish in middle school and high school even though I wanted to learn French. Some of my friends took French and I actually ended up learning more French than Spanish, although I don't really remember much of either language anymore. Now I am totally off my own subject! ;D
I'm glad to hear you'll be able to make it to the luncheon! I am also looking forward to seeing everyone again!!!
Jan -- I know you would be here if you could and we would be very glad to have you! I think I told you I'm not going to make the symposium this year, but am already saving for the next one so hopefully I'll see you there, if not sometime before then.

Okay, Wendy, Symposium 2011; consider it a date written in stone!
I'm wondering myself if I'll be in attendance at the Chicago symposium. Now that I'm "boss-less", I may have to attend a BOD meeting in San Diego after my regularly scheduled work there. I'm hopeful that either a) I'll have a new boss by August and it will his/her job to meet with the BOD or b) the BOD will decide it's not vital for me to attend their meeting.
Although I'd hate to miss out on the symposium - especially when it's in my own backyard and some of the docs speaking are my favorites ones - my paying job comes first.
Time will tell; keeping my fingers crossed.
Jan
-
WHAT?? You are kidding with me?? Can't you tell them that you already have made reservations and vacation plans for then?? You are killing me here...but I do understand WOrk...

Jan -
I hope you make it to the symposium -- it would be a double shame if you don't a) everyone who is looking forward to seeing you and seeing what kind of mischief you all can get into will be very disappointed and b) it would be a shame to miss the symposium, because as you pointed out, it is in your own backyard -- it couldn't be much more convenient as far as location goes. I'm sure a trip to San Diego could be fun, even if it's on business, but the symposium sounds even better but if you have to choose, I guess your paying job has to come first. My fingers are crossed for you too. BTW, what happened to your boss?
Wendy
-
Jan,
If you're 'boss-less' can't you just do what you want !! ? (regarding your work trip)... no, I'm sure it's not that simple.
Anyway, I thought you were going to be the host, the social coordinator, the cruise director, the recipient of Steve's drinks bought for everyone... I really hope you can still go to the symposium and do the work trip another time. I was just hoping the other day I could go to it. It would be so much fun to meet everyone.

I'm in.
Joe-

Joe,
Great to hear you'll be at the luncheon! It will be great to see you again!!!
Wendy
-
I`m in! Just let me know what time, Mickey
-
Hi all! Debbie - thanks for sending me an email about this. I haven't been checking in on this forum as much as I used to. July 11th could work for me. What time? I would love to see you all!
Mary
-
BTW, what happened to your boss?
Fired. Shocked the sh*t out of me - him, too.
We'd worked together for 17 1/2 years.
-
Hey Mickey and Mary - so glad you can make it!! I think Wendy and I settled on 12 noon. Brendan's is near Penn Stn and walking distance to Grand Central and Port Authority, on 35th between 5th and 6th. Here is the website:
http://www.brendansbar.com/ (http://www.brendansbar.com/)
They have a brunch menu which is $16 pp plus tax and gratuity, so just under $25 per person.
Spouses welcome, of course!
We'll collect cell phone numbers from everyone as we get closer. You can PM either me or Wendy and we'll PM you back with our cell numbers.
Wahoo!
Debbi

Hi Debbi
It looks like th luncheon is shaping up nicely. Hopefully we'll be able to get a few more people this time around too.
Jan - Sorry to hear about your boss being fired so unexpectedly -- it sounds like it was a surprise to everyone. Did they give him a reason? I hope this doesn't spoil your plans for the symposium -- I know how much you were looking forward to it.
Wendy
-
Bump. Hope we're all on for Saturday.
;D
-
I`m assuming that its official? Mickey
-
Sorry I can't make it again, but I promise I will next time.
-
Hi to all,
It's late and I don't have enough energy to go back and do a head count right now but will do that tomorrow. I believe Saturday is official barring some disasterous event that will keep people from coming. Off the top of my head I think this is where things stand:
Debbi and her hubby - sorry brain fog is making is name escape me right now.
Rob and me
Neal
Eve
Joe
Wendy
Mickey and Pat(?)
possibly Dawn (?)
If I left anyone out, accept my apologies.
Wendy
-
And Mary!
I made the reservations under the name of Debbi (go figure) and I said there'd be 10-12 of us, so sounds about right. We can have them adjust the seating up if we need to. Willie (hubby) and I will try to get there a little early - just depends on tunnel traffic. Most of you have my cell number already - but if you don't have it, just PM me and I'll send it to you.
Yay! Can't wait to see everyone!!
Wayne, you've got to come next time!!

Hi, ANers from NY/NJ,
I had posted on June 16 that I would be able to attend the luncheon on Saturday, but I'm going to have to cancel -- for non-AN health-related reasons.
Had gum surgery (for a receding gum line on a couple of teeth) a couple of weeks ago and am still on a very restricted liquid/soft food diet. Since I had very intentionally planned for this surgery to take place the week after I returned from three weeks in France (figured it would be a semi-painless way to lose the pounds I would inevitably gain on the trip), I'm not looking for sympathy ... but I had hoped the dietary restrictions wouldn't last quite this long. Two days after the dental surgery I broke out in a horrible case of poison ivy (face, neck, hands, etc.) from yard work I'd done a few days earlier. I've just completed a steroid regimen to clear that up -- I still have some intermittent itching episodes, so I can't get too far away from my bottle of calamine lotion.
The thought of going into the city, staring enviously at everyone's lunch selections while trying not to scratch my remaining poison ivy spots seemed pretty grim, so I think I'll wait until the next gathering.
I hope that everyone is doing well, and I'll look forward to seeing you at a later date. Please take pictures!
Best wishes,
Catherine (JerseyGirl 2)

Hi Catherine,
Sorry to hear about your gums and poison ivy troubles and also that you won't be joining us. I'll look forward to seeing you next time.
Debbi - Thanks for making the reservation. I meant to call you today -- well really for the last couple of days to see if you'd made the reservation or if I should. I had planned on calling you in the morning and left myself a note but now see it is unnecessary. I should have known you would do it. I'm feeling rather disorganized lately.
Thanks,
Wendy
-
Oh, Catherine - I feel for you! Willie has been plagued with poison ivy this year (I am immune for some reason) and is just one big itchy mess. As for gum surgery, I wouldn't wish that on anyone! We will have a mimosa for you, though!
Wendy, know what you mean about feeling disorganized lately!
I can't wait to see everyone tomorrow!
Deb
-
Hi, everybody,
Sorry to say this but I won't be able to come on Saturday because my husband has severe back problems and I will have to help him as much as I can. Gosh, I wish I can join you! Hopefully, next time I will be able to make it. Have a great time and take pictures.
Eve

Eve,
I'm sorry you can't make it. I was really looking forward to seeing you again, as I'm sure everyone else was. We'll just have to have another luncheon before the end of the summer. I'm bringing my camera!
Wendy
-
Thanks, Wendy,
I was looking forward to seeing all of you again and, hopefully, meeting new people. Have fun!
Eve
-
Great time today, can't say how much I enjoy seeing all of you.
Until next time.
Joe-
-
Being able to lunch with the fine folks I met through this forum is definitely one of the benefits of having an AN. ;D I had a great time today and I look forward to meeting again this fall.
Cheers,
Neal

Pat and I had a real nice day today with everyone. Untill we meet again, Mickey
-
Are there any pictures this time?
-
I had an AWESOME time yesterday and it was so great seeing you all! Next time, hopefully Mary, Catherine, Eve, Nancy, Dawn and anyone else in the area can be there - tentatively planning for early October!
And YES, there are pictures!!
At Brendan's, from Left to Right: Willie, Debbi, Neal (NTeeman)l, Wendy, Rob, Joe(Jtd), Pat, Mike (Mickey)

And, outside of Brendans (Willie and Rob, being the dutiful husbands, were standing in the middle of W 35th dodging traffic to take this shot!)
Okay, start checking your calendars for early October - I'm thinking Oct 3 or Oct 10 - any preference?
Oh, and Joe? That picture you texted me of you in the hospital was so funny!!!
Debbi
-
You all look great and full of smiles. Thanks for the pics!
Steve
-
Thanks, Debbi. You all look great!
And now I'm especially curious about the picture of Joe in the hospital.
We all appreciate funny ;) Will he let you share it with us?
Jan
-
Great pictures. Thanks. Next time for me! ;D
-
Debbi-
You have my permission to post the picture.
Joe-
-
Okay, you asked for it ..... (drum roll) My great friend, Joe, minutes before surgery at NYU. All dolled up....for the OR!

Great pictures! I cannot wait to join you next time! Joe - aren't you glad everything is over and the outcome is fantastic?
Eve
-
Marvelous picture - love the hat! Had one just like it myself a few years back, but I've since replaced it with a nice knit Steve original.
Thanks for letting Debbi post it, Joe.
I didn't think to have someone take pictures at the hospital. The only one I have was taken by my sister with her cell phone so she could show me what my scar looked like ;D
Jan
-
That's the only picture I have and it's just enough to remind me if I start to forget how lucky I am.
Joe-

This is the first chance I've had to get on the computer since Friday. We had a very busy weekend. I see that Debbi already posted pictures, and since mine are identical it doesn't make sense to post them too. It was great seeing all of you and I'm looking forward to October -- either date is good for me, so I'll go along with what works for everyone else. Neal, you look great -- it's amazing how five months short can return you to just about normal after such major surgery, isn't it? As everyone says, there is life after AN, but it is still an experience that binds us together. Mickey, good lluck with your MRI. I hope you see no changes.
Eve - I didn't have the time to make my AN cake for this get together so you didn't miss it. My youngest daughter's birthday party took place a couple of hours after we got home from the luncheon so I'd been busy getting ready for that. I'll try to make one for our next get together in October. It might be more fitting then anyway since it will be close to Halloween. ;D
Wendy
-
Thanks for posting the pictures! Everyone looked hale and hearty and in good spirits -- this should be encouraging to all the AN newbies out there.
And Joe, your pre-surgery picture brought back all sorts of memories, although I don't remember wearing such a stylish "shower cap."
I've penciled in the next luncheon on my calendar (either October 3 or 10 is fine) and will look forward to joining you all then. This is a great group!
Best wishes to all of you,
Catherine (JerseyGirl 2)
-
In fact, one might even go so far as to say that we TOTALLY ROCK! Missed you you JerseyGirls!
Deb

Brendan's! It looks like it was a great day for everyone there- sorry that I wasn't able to make it. I loved the photos too and hope that I can make the next meal in October. I'm away Sept. 30th -Oct. 10th but if for some reason the next lunch party is on a bit later in October, please count me in!
PS- my one year MRI was clean and I'm waiting for my face to catch up with my feeling good about life.
