Hey all,
This thought was provoked by reading through the sociial security disability thread.
Has anyone, or does anyone know of someone who filed for and sucessfully received disbility status for a AN and the resulting problems? I have no idea if the VA would even consider this because signs /symptoms of a AN would most likely not become evident until long after being seperated from the service (unless a lifer). However, given the time it takes for a AN to grow to the point that becomes a problem...it could very well have formed/oreiginated while on active duty.
Thoughts? Tales of succss/failure in this area?

I just retired from 23 yrs active duty from the Air Force. I tried to claim my AN...but they only gave me 10% for the tinnitus part ( I wound up with 40% total).
I am considering trying to have the AN disability re-evalauted. They stated that the AN wasn't duty related but woman who have a hysterectomy get 30% right off the bat (no disrecpect intended).
I too would be interested to hear results.

I was in the military. I am confused, how are the two supposed to be related. I don't get it. ???

Im not sure what part you are confused about. I am probably over-simplifying this, but my understanding of it is that, through the VA veterans can apply for disbiliity compensation for any chronic/persist ent medical condiitions that developed or were aggrivated during active duty. Using myself as an example...considering how long it takes a An to grow to 5 CM...mine could have easily formed while I was in the military, perhaps in relationship to Operations Desert Sheild/Storm and the whole gulf war syndrome, or perhaps from some head trauma I experienced while in the millitary, or perhaps from exposure certain elements, there doesn't seem to be any sound explanation as to cause for the AN. I started wondering if a AN & the resultant problems would even be considered by the VA as a disability after reading through the whole discussion on people obtaining Social Security Disability after they had their AN operation. Hopefully I have not created any additional confusion with this answer, although I fear I might have, as I am prone to overexamination/explanation/complicating of a relatively simple subject.

I worked around aircraft (helicopters), so everyday I was exposed to loud noise...

I worked in the line shack (A4's), part of my tour of duty.
The other part I worked around yellow gear (GSE). So definitely noisy for me too.

Interesting....I worked on/around C-5's (jet engines)....very noisy for me as well!

I have a friend who used to evaluate the claims for va disability. I'd be more than happy to pose the question to her. She was willing to help another friend of mine who was denied va disability reappy and provide him with the "buzz words" they are trained to look for. She's ex military..I forget which branch.

If they had the surgery while on active duty, the VA would take care of
it...free. If the trauma was caused while on active duty, the VA would pay for
that, too. Its the VA that takes care of medical issues, not the military.
I'm not sure if she was understanding what I was trying to ask her...I'd be more then happy to forward anyones email question to her if you'd like, maybe you can explain it better?
