Title: When do you tell your family
Post by: Debbie222 on December 07, 2020, 11:24:29 pm
I have my first app with the specialist, since I was told I have a tumor, next month. I was not planning on telling my husband or the kids about this until after that meeting. But I have read some stuff that says he may schedule surgery at that meeting.  I don’t want to freak them out until I know exactly what is going to happen. Any suggestions?

My opinion,, tell your husband. Then both of you can discuss when to tell the kids.

It’s a really good idea to take someone with you to the doctor appointments as they can write down things discussed and are a second pair of ears to help you hear and remember what  is said. They can help you remember the questions you have and get answers. Many times during these appointments,, we dwell on something said and miss the next points being made by the doctor,,,,

Just my opinion ,, I had someone with me to take notes and was very glad I did. There will be many things discussed that maybe you haven’t heard of before or haven’t thought about yet.
Good luck,, and I hope you like your specialist and get many answers to your questions.

I totally second what Jane said.  It's a lot for one person to take in, and I can't imagine keeping it from my spouse or not having them there to help, take notes, etc.
