Title: Cornea Ulcer
Post by: micca82 on September 27, 2012, 08:34:01 am
Hi

I'm coming close to 18 month mark since my AN surgery last year. My eye has been doing okay (I'd put drops in every 4 hours or so, and whenever it gets red-and it would go away) and didn't have to do oinment at night for about 9 months now. Then, 3 weeks ago on Labor Day Weekend, I went camping, then the next day, my AN-side eye was red!!! Redness won't go away with drops. The next day I noticed a white spot on my cornea, went to go see cornea specialist who put me on antibiotics. It's been long 3 weeks, and I still have the ulcer. :( Doctor said it's healing (at least it's not getting worse) but progress is too slow so he had me go to the plastic surgeon that put in my eyelid weight yesterday who recommended lower eyelid lift. I really didn't want to look any weirder that I already look so I asked about amniotic membrane that can be placed over my cornea for the time being while it heals. He agreed to getting that done for me, and if that doesn't work I'd have to get my lower eyelid lift. Honestly, I don't want any more surgeries!!!

Question for you,

(1) How did you treat your cornea ulcer? Anything effective?
(2) How long did it take for your ulcer to heal?
(3) How was your experience with amniotic membrane over your cornea?

I really I wish I had been more careeful with my eye :( Any info will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hello. My tumor was a 4 x 2.9 removed March 2010 I had a gold weight put in June 2010 and then taken out Nov. 2011.  It was rubbing under my eye brow so I had it removed. Then just two months ago I got an ulcer and the doctor put me on antibioticeye drops as well as ointment at night and some prednisolone acetate it was healing slowly and he sew the corner of my eye and my eye got better.  I to do not like surgeries or to look weird. Have you looked into blinkez? Blinkez can be worn at your convince and helps the eye lid close.

Hi Micca,
Your post I found is old  so I am not sure anyone will see it but will give it a try.  How is your eye ?  I am having almost same experience.  12 months after AN removal.  Dry eye for 11 months then wham an eye infection.  Now 3 weeks into eye infection , it is still no better.  Dr has a contour lens on the eye now.  Next step is amniotic membrane graft.  Last resort is the surgery.  Would love to hear how your eye is doing.
