Interesting. Nothing to buy or install?
I'm saying it here or I won't go...I'm going to yoga/pilates in the morning. It's mostly mat & I'll just do what I can w/ my ankle. It's better & I figure something is better than nothing!
K ;D
I got my exercise today by spending 20 minutes to get the kids bundled up to play in the snow, so they could come back in 15 minutes later and I could un-do the bundling....only to have to do it all over again 15 minutes later! Oh, and lets not forget having to towel off the dogs every time they came in from rolling in the snow.
Way to go Keri - in adverse conditions too!!
I did a 13 years olds birthday party where they dressed up & had a photo shoot - sounds really fun but I don't think I did very well. First, remind me to NEVER to do this for my daughters (unless everyone invited is a beauty queen!) - that is just a very awkward age - braces, zits, big lips, not being able to fill out dresses, etc. Second, they didn't really get into it - a couple did, but as a whole, NO! And third, & maybe most importantly, they had already set the atrium where we shoot up for an event last night so the main place we usually shoot was covered by a buffet table! I didn't have hardly any room or places for the pictures! I had nightmares about it all night and expect the photog that I shot for to call me up & say NO MORE!! Hopefully she can edit them & make them acceptable! I guess it will be better next time!
Thanks for asking!

Kay, I'm sure they're much better than you're imagining, you're way too hard on yourself!!
Keri, you're an amazing woman. Ice on your eyelashes? Seriously, I don't think I would've done it. Good job!!
Captain Deb, what were your Topamax side effects? I got the numb fingers, toes, nose. I was on it when I went to Costa Rica with my eldest daughter and people stopped me in the streets to ask if I was ok because my lips were blue.
I'm back at the gym on a regular basis after Christmas vacation and an incredibly busy January. It really really helps my stress level to work out so I just have to make time.

If I have athlete's foot does that mean I'm an athlete? Jill
just eating Oreos and reading this thread...
Saw this on a sign today - Clones are people two
And Steve has appeared.... OK Steve, how many miles for you tomorrow?
Do home repairs and yard work count?

I am going to have to get up & go at 5:00 again.
Jan - I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks.
Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to go there.
I know your are going but it still made me think of you.
Hope to be in prime shape by the time the 2011 ANA Symposium rolls around, in case I decide to attend.
Jan
Jan, do you know if the location is set in stone yet?
Hubby is fixing his truck (which will save me from the aforementioned taxi driving), so unless I want to run carrying a 3 year old on my back, I think I'm out of luck.
I'm on day 43 of exercising every day now and still haven't lost more than 2 pounds! Gotta stop the hand to mouth exercising!
Still no real exercising here...off to surgery center for Kendie's surgery...say a little prayer for us!
K ;D
Lori - I tried to do some exercises via laughing this evening but my favorite shows are reruns which ticked me off, is venting exercising?
Jan, that's so exciting! Now I met you at the symposium and I can't imagine that you have a very long way to go. Keep working the way you are and you will be there in no time.
Well, yesterday was a no-brainer day for the gym. Snow? :( After a 70 degree day! ??? :o
Oh, yeah, this is Chicago. I forgot that was normal :D
Jan
The voice is right, Soundy.
Sara - i'm thinking you can run the bleachers when in between your daughter's BB games!
Soundy -
I had no idea mules lived that long. Actually, I guess I never gave it much thought...
Lori
Bo is scared snakes are there ... I have yet to see one in the actual swamp but see water snakes and moccasins in the creek that feed it ...a snake would be good for exercise routine ... one would induce running :D
Got 2 weeks consecutive of 140 miles each of training done on my road bike.
I saw myself in a full length mirror the other day and it scared me :o
BTW, I'm sitting at Chicago O'hare (HI JAN!!) - layover 3 hours.
Basically the shoes put you slightly off balance and your muscles are constantly working to keep you balanced and centered. Staying balanced while wearing the shoes requires the use of muscles in the legs, abs and buttocks not used with standard walking shoes. It took me a couple of days to get used to it. My first day frustration turned into wonder when after twenty minutes of a moderate walk my muscles felt like after an hour of vigorous gym work out.
Running in Shape Ups is not recommended. Also, concentrate while going downhill or up stairs. These shoes are definitely made for walking.
Are the Shape Up shoes even meant for running?

Soundy -
thanks for the info on the Dankins Nows. Wonder if they make them for men.
One of my nephews has the same thing going on as your daughter. My brother has spent lots of time and money having him "treated" at Shriner's Hospital among other places. He's had the therapeutic casts also, but nothing has really helped.
Jan
Working WAY too much :(
Need to get my butt back to exercising. Today is the day!
Jan
I'm still doing good - most of the time. I'm down 25 lbs (YEAH !!! ;D )
- and Saralynn will be happy to know that I AM wearing my helmet (although I hate it :( )
Jan
Kaybo, just moving out of one house and into another is considered exercise in my book.
Nothing like multiple appliances failing at once.
Since February 1 I've exercised 186 out oF 188 days.
Since February 1 I've exercised 186 out oF 188 days. My exercise options have been running, walking at least 3 miles at a brisk pace, bicycling, or yoga. Running in this heat and humidity has been a challenge. I've even managed to lose 10 pounds so far. Only another 15 to go. Everyone else here helps keep me motivated. Also, being in an exercise challenge with friends onlne helps.
Jean
Back to the gym (finally!) for 45 minutes on the treadmill plus 30 minute weight workout, both upper and lower.
Sara
my lovely 11 year old reminded me that today her oldest brother was turning 32 :o ... then said to me Boy you are getting old Mom >:( ... I thought about dropping her off along the road and letting her walk the rest of the way to school but it was foggy and she didn't have her tail lights with her
I've also been eating less (probably depression - will keep an eye on that).
It's absolutely easier to stay motivated when you have buddies. One of the reasons I am struggling now is that the group I used to hang out with at the Y has broken up and gone their separate ways. We used to get together every weekday at 8:00 rain or shine. Now one is living in the UAE, one moved to Washington state, and two get up at the crack of dawn to go running. It's just not as much fun to go in and lift by myself. Some of us still get together once in a while for coffee, but it's not the same.
Sara
Cindy - how was your 10k?
Keri
Good for you, Soundy! And I think it was neat that you were thinking of others who have health challenges - kind of makes the whole fund raising for a cause / race makes sense.
Cindy, Get a bike! Do you have Craig's List where you live. If you do then go on the site and you can pick up a bike for a lot less then you would at the store. Yes, your knee will love you for it. It is suppose to rain tomorrow then it's nice for the rest of the week so it's not quite time to hit the gym and the weights yet, I know I need to. However, I just as soon ride the bike while it's nice.
OK - so I actually went to the HOA and FINALLY had my picture taken so that I can start going to the neighborhood workout facility. Now, I just need the motivation to GO!
K ;)
On the way to the gym...
Jan - YEAH for you, back on the exercise plan, can't be easy with a move in the works. If you change your mind about boring us with the details of what's been going on feel free to share, we're here for physical and emotional support
So here's a thought/question...the trainer that I worked with both days (initial consultation split because of time) was very surprised by my core strength. I can do far more sit-ups than most people in my shape (or lack thereof!!) and am able to do plank, inverted sit-ups and the Roman chair fairly easily also. I got to thinking about it and am wondering if it is because my body is always "fighting" with itself to keep me upright?? Has my core strengthened as a result of that?
Thoughts anyone...
K ;D
we are behind you Soundy!! DO IT!!
K ;D
I got curious about how long we have kept this thread going, so I went back and reread page 1. It's been over a year! Great work everyone - keep it up.
Cindy - How about we trade, I worked out last week so you work out this week?
Jill
I like that Hawaii diet idea.
Now if everyone on this Forum would just send me $5, I'll go ahead and book my airfare ;)
Jan
Cindy - I want to go dancing too! Details please!
Hubby, the dogs & I walked every night this week and I made it to the club once to ride the bike. Since Hubby is home with a bad back I've been walking with him so he can get out and get some fresh air. The walks actually seem to help his back now, at first it killed him to walk. I've been working overtime a lot the last two weeks but that should hopefully end tomorrow so I can get back on the bike and ride, outside that is. Gotta get to sleep now as I work tomorrow. Jill :(
.
soundy - any word on your half sister's grandma? my half sister lives in alabama. they are in a trailor park. they had so many tornadoes go north and south of them. scary, scary stuff.
keri
I haven't read all 67 pages of this post, please forgive me if I'm being repetitive! :o Are there Metro Atlanta runners/walkers here on the forum? I need some motivation to get up and get going!
Hey, Allison! I'm here! Have not been as faithful as I'd like lately, but still trying to plug away. I am a jog/walk/jog/walker type...been training w/ three other friends and we've done a few 1/2 marathons together - always for a good cause and really helps us stay on track when we are getting ready for an event. Glad you stopped in here - get moving and then come let us know how you're doing! It helps us all to hear what others are up to. I forget what area in Atl you are in? Perhaps we could meet on one of the Greenways sometime if that would be convenient?
Would love to see you at the Support Group meeting next month (7/23)!
Cindy
Checking in with a 90 mile bike ride today in the Katy, TX Flatlands bike ride. I know what Kaybo is talking about on the heat index....sweated away a bunch of water weight that I'm trying to restore.
Patrick
back to original thought... we are up to 88 miles ... thinking we should set a goal of 400 by Christmas ... I am still wobbly and have brace and wrap on leg ... shin and just under knee hurts but doctor gave his go ahead to continue walking ... with trusty walking staff in hand I march on
I am with you. I am also going cow milk free as I have been having distended stomach for the past three weeks with pain so bad that I ended up in the ER two nights ago. They wanted to put me in as an in patient, but I had to get home to take care of my father that is on a feeding tube. Had to leave my car there overnight and get it in the morning. I want to see if getting off dairy is going to make a difference. I never had a problem with dairy before but our bodies change.ahem Sistah. Kindly listen to your vmail! xoxo

I do the same thing, Kay. I bought my first pair of shoes at a local running store where they did a gait analysis with a camera behind a treadmill. Now that I know the best shoe (stabilizing for severe pronation) and proper size I buy them off the internet. My first pair was $120 and the ones I recently bought were $69 because they were last year's color.
My hat off to those that run! I can't do that but I have started taking a spinning class once a week at the gym. I love the class but my ears can't handle the loud music. :(
So this week I wore an ear plug in my left ear (AN ear) but think next week I'll be wearing one in both ears. ;D Keep on keep'n on everyone, no matter what you do.
Karen
In thinking post surgery, I have ordered tai chi for women. It looks good. I know it's not running or even walking, but I heard its good for balance if I come out wobbly. Anybody try tai chi post op? I have Translab next Wed 1-25-12 and am visualizing a good and healthy recovery. Any experience with tai chi appreciated!
Stephanie
I could have saved you that money since I told you that I thought it might be PF!!
Soundy, get that colonoscopy done! It's a piece of cake (well, once the cleansing is done :o)
cindy
Prep is by far the worst part of the procedure, and it's a walk in the park compared to the flu. Just do it.
Sometimes getting older is no fun :P
Jan
Jan - you were running in moccasins?! That must be kind of like those minimalist running shoes that some people swear by;
Cindy, Thanks. The reason for my question is that when I do anything strenuous and my pulse quickens and bp goes up, I feel more fullness in my head, nothing painful or disabling just a different feeling and sometimes the wonky head gets worse. Nothing I cant live with until we do treatments.
Skip
What an incredible picture your child drew!
Karen
I think that we've all been so busy with exercising that we haven't had time to post about it !!
New Year next week - everyone resolve to get going again!
Last few times I've been on here, I've been logged on as the '2nd me' who is Keri Jacobs (who is a newbie with 9 posts). I finally figured out how to login as the old me. The real one.
I'll try to check back soon with a better report.

So very sad. The Boston Marathon holds a special place in my heart for many reasons, one of those being the fantastic crowd support along the course. To have these innocent people targeted in such a tragic event deals an emotional blow on many levels.
My friends from our running group who were out there are all safe & tomorrow I'll see them. What would typically be an evening of celebration & race stories will be much somber as our thoughts & prayers go out to all affected by this.
