Title: Post Op balance issues
Post by: cal1152 on July 21, 2019, 12:39:03 pm
I've had two surgeries for a large (5cm) AN back in 8/1983 and 11/1983. Then due to AN regrowth another surgery in 12/1999.  I was 30 years old when this AN journey started in 1983.  After the regrowth surgery in 12/1999 I really haven't had any additional complications.  Question? Now I'm in my mid 60s....and my balance seems to be getting worse as I age.  Is there anything I can do at my age to improve my balance?

Thanks.....Cal

Hi Cal and welcome to this forum .....

First question I have is:  when was your last MRI?  If more than a year or two, you might want to have another one, for peace of mind, if nothing else.

As you know, it is very common for anyone to develop balance issues as we age.  If not caused by a recurring tumor, you should look in your community or area for programs or classes specifically designed to improve balance.  Tai chi is one example.

Let us know how you are doing.

Hi,

Agree about the MRI for peace of mind. My balance issues I thought were due to aging turned out to be something else. It was tough after surgery but I have found that spending time every day doing stretches, walking and easy yoga have made an immense difference for my balance.

Also, with no scientific backing, when I eat poorly it seems worse.
