I am sitting here with a grin on my face similar to this  ;D

As much as I love my Divino, I am twice as enamored with my BP100 and have to say it was definitely worth the money - and the 8 weeks I had to wait for it to arrive.

The sound is even clearer than the Divino - which I've never really had a problem with - and while I'm still trying to learn the buttons, what I've experienced has been awesome.  I'd describe the sound as "smooth" if that makes sense.

The MP3 adapter is so cool.  You attach one end of the cord to your BP100 and the other to your MP3 player (in my case an iPod) and you can hear with absolutely nothing in your ear!  It's like hearing music in your head LOL

Although the BP100 has 12 channels, it basically has 3 "settings" or programs.  #1 is for quiet environments, #2 is for noisy/crowded places, 3# is for audio adapters (MP3 adapters or telephone adapters) and when you change from one program to another it tells you "where you're at" with beeps.  For example, when you move to level 2 it beeps 2 times.

There is also a low battery indicator (a beep) that tells you when you have an hour left on your battery.

I've noticed that it's not as sensitive to feedback as my Divino is.  If I'm wearing my Divino and put a hair clip in my hair too close to my abutment it lets out a loud squeal.  Not so with the BP100.

I asked the audiologist about the feedback manager since I know some on the Forum have had issues with it, but she tells me it should be fine.  It will beep when you get near certain "sounds" - for example when your microwave beeps or when you are listening to music and hear a certain tone, but she basically said that's to help it decide how to program itself.  If it gets too annoying, all I have to do is bring it back to her for reprogramming and she can "tweak" the manager.  So far I only noticed a little feedback when I got into my car for the first time and turned on the ignition since my car makes a beeping sound until you fasten your seatbelt.  This happened the first time I got in the car, but not subsequent times.  So I think my device is "learning" already.

I asked the audiologist if anyone of her patients have had issues with the BP100 and she said no.  She also told me that so far no one who has opted for a BAHA since the BP100 came out has chosen the Ponto Pro, which I thought was very interesting - and only reinforced my decision to go with the BP100.

Life is GOOD!

Jan

Thanks, Ken.

And thanks too for having lunch with me today.

Jan,

Congratulations on your new BP100! It sounds as though it's even better than you had expected, and that's great!

Intenso wearers will definitely recognize your description of the three "settings" on the BP100 -- we have that, too, and the descriptions (1- quiet/normal; 2 - noisy/crowded; and 3- audio adapters) and identifying "beeps" are identical. I usually keep my Intenso on "1" though I'll generally switch it to a "2" in a restaurant or other noisy place. The Intenso also has the low-battery warning beep, but since I just replace my battery weekly I don't encounter that one.

Please keep on writing about it!

Jan and Catherine (JG2).  Interesting to hear that your processors are so much alike .... didn't realize that, as no one had explained it in the ways you do.  When my abutment is ready ("cemented in" said Jan), I'll be able to try each with the audiologist before opening the box with the processor that was ordered.  So I'll keep this all in mind.

Greg

BTW Jan .... which color?

Greg,

I was a little surprised at the seeming similarities between the Intenso and the BP100, too. Never having used a Divino I just assumed it had somewhat comparable settings, but apparently not. The Divino has a directional microphone, which the Intenso does not -- does the BP100 have that as well, Jan? How many volume settings does the BP100 have?

Hi Jan,

I am so excited for you and your BP100! You always give such sraight up information so I always appreciate what you have to say. I am getting my BP100 on Thursday and after reading your post, I am more EXCITED than ever ;D

This is even making me have more thoughts about the BAHA...The only Dr. that does it here is the doctor that TOTALLY dismissed Kendie's high temperature the weekend after her surgery...I don't think I want him messing with my skull.  There is a strong chance that we will have to move to Houston so I am kind of waiting to see what happens with that because I am SURE there are good surgeons there that could do it...

Kay -

I know a wonderful neurotologist here who could do your BAHA.  I highly recommend him.  Come visit  ;D

Greg -

I'm glad you get to try both the BP100 and the Intenso before making your choice.  Ken (kencutus) wears an Intenso, but today at lunch he tried my Divino.  That titanium rod in the skull can come in really handy @ times LOL

My BP100 is brown just like my Divino.  Although I'm still not dying my hair again (to the horror of my teenage daughter  :o ) I'm not gray enough yet to warrant a white one.  Give me a few years!  :D

Catherine -

good question about the directional microphone; I specifically asked the audiologist about this.  She said that the BP100 basically has a built in microphone and that switching from setting #1 (quiet) to setting #2 (noisy) is basically the same thing as flipping the directional microphone on the Divino (where it's actually a very tiny switch).

As for volume, I haven't had time to play with that yet and I haven't read the instruction manual so I don't know how many volume settings I have.  The top edge of the BP100 has three buttons.  The middle one is the on/off button (when held firmly) and it's also used to switch programs (when "hit" fast).  The buttons on either side of it control the volume.  Whether the buttons are "up" or "down" depends on which side you are deaf on.  Because I am deaf left, the button closest to my nose is my "up" button and the button closest to my neck is my "down" button - or maybe that's vice versa, I forget.  Anyway, if I were deaf right, the buttons would be just the opposite.

Lauren -

glad you like the "straight up information".  I have a habit of telling it like it is - which can be both a blessing and a curse  :D  ;D

Hi Jan,
Glad to hear you are so happy with the BP100.  ;D It's also good to know that you find it improved over the Divino, since you've now had both. I feel I made the right decision to wait for the BP100.

I am interested on the MP3 adapter. You say the sound quality is good, but is it the same as an ear bud, or better?

Just seeing this thread...  I'm glad you like the BP100, Jan!  I'm officially jealous again now..  I really wish that long lost rich uncle would find me soon.  ;)

I'll have to see if Dr Vrabec has a BP100 testband that I can borrow for a little while when I go back there in May..  I'm curious about it more now.

Regards,
Brian

IMO, the sound quality with the adapter is better than the ear bud.  And while my mono plug and single ear bud have worked well for me for almost 3 years now, I have to say I don't miss having to keep pushing the ear bud into my ear when it slips out.  No ear bud = no slippage.

Actually the only reason I purchased the adapter is that Pooter pointed out to us that it was 1/2 price (Thanks, Pooter).  I think it's back to regular price now, though.

Lori -  you know Jimmy is on my iPod.  While I've been playing some oldies lately (did you know that Treetop Flyer is at the very end of the last song on the Banana Wind CD?) I've also been listening to Buffet Hotel a lot lately.

Sam - I was in CA just last August on business; this year it will be Seattle.  But I'd be happy to let you try my BP100 - and I'll even buy you lunch - however, you'll have to meet me in Seattle or come to Illinois.  Unless, that is, you want to send me a round-trip ticket to CA  ;D  Can't blame a girl for asking  ;)  :D

Jan,

If feedback beeps become annoying, try having the audi turn feedback reduction off. Although new firmware helped this problem with my BP100, some tones still caused beeps or whines. For example, our telephone ringing set off a sustained whine in my BP100. I had the audi set feedback reduction to "off" for Program 1. So far, I haven't noticed any increased feedback with feedback reduction off, and the beeps/whines are gone.

I have experienced a low frequency "crackling" triggered by certain sounds. Have you experienced this?

No crackling sounds yet, but I did notice a few squeaks during a meeting today.

I couldn't decide if the rest of the people in the room heard them though, or if it was just me  ::)

They happened when I talked a little too loudly or when one of my colleagues seated on my left (BAHA) side said certain words that had distinctive sounds.

I basically ignored the squeaks and no one else seemed disturbed by them, so either they didn't hear them or they were just being polite.

I'll have to ask my colleagues if they heard any weird noises coming from my head, since I should probably know this for the future.

Hey Jan,
As far as others being able to hear your BP100, I have asked people if they can hear the low battery beep on mine, and no one else has heard it but me. It seems really loud to me, though. Like a truck backing up.  ;)

Next time I go to the audiologist, I'm going to ask her if she can hear the feedback squeal when I put my hand over the BP100. I also wonder whether anyone else can hear the beeps when changing programs or volume. They seem loud to me.

Forgot to say in my first post that I asked my audiologist about batteries since I always just use Duracell that I purchase at Walmart and some claim you should use batteries you buy from your audiologist or order from a hearing aid place online.

She told me that it doesn't matter where you get your batteries or who manufacturers them.  As long as they are size 13 (orange) they are all pretty much the same in her opinion.

I tend to agree with this since I've been using Duracell batteries for a few years now and I get at least 2 weeks out of one battery.

Jay -

I think that Cochlear will keep making more advanced BAHA devices as time goes on.  Just the differences between my Divino and my BP100 (the upgrade) are impressive.  I think the future holds all kinds of exciting possibilities.

Lisa -

thanks for your input on the beeping sounds.  I think the beeping I heard during my meeting might be the same thing - noticeable to me but not to others.  Or perhaps more noticeable to me than it was to them.  I'll have to do some research on this.

Jan,

Congratulations on getting your BP100!  I know you've been anxiously awaiting it's arrival and I'm glad it's lived up to your expectations.  I have to say I'm just a little bit jealous, but I do still love my Divino.  I'm hoping to upgrade in the next year or so and really looking forward to it though. Congratulations again!

Had an opportunity to try out setting #2 today (noisy/crowded room).

Attended my son's volleyball tournament in a large, noisy gym.  Could actually hear the person sitting next to me talking to my left ("bad") ear  :o  VERY nice!

I have also discovered that if you use the audio adapter it seems to use a lot of battery power.  So the battery that I started out with on Tuesday mid-morning only lasted until this afternoon, but IMO that's a small price to pay for the "concert in my head".  ;D

I am just loving this BP100  ;D

Jan,

I love reading your updates!  I'm still waiting on insurance approval (or, I suppose disapproval) for my baha surgery.  Reading all of your great comments give me something to look forward to.   :)

I certainly hope it's not disapproval  :'(

Cochlear has insurance advice on their website and you can also talk to their reps about insurance coverage if you need to.  Don't hesitate.  They love helping people and it's one of the things they are there for.

Good luck,
