Hi everyone,
My great niece was born (in April) with a rare eye problem called aniridia -- she was born without irises. There are two types of aniridia, one that affects only the eyes and another that affects the eyes and other organs. Through genetic testing, it's been determined that luckily, the type she has only affects her eyes, but that is bad enough. Although she has some vision, we're not sure how good it is since she's just a baby and she has high pressure in her eyes which can destroy her vision. She has had several operations to relieve the pressure in her eyes and to put drains in them to keep the pressure down. Things tend to stay under control for a while and they she needs more surgery. You are all so good at pulling the power of prayer together, I hope you'll pray for my great niece that she's seen the last of an operating room for a good long time. I saw a news piece about a doctor in California (Dr. Assill) who recently performed an operation on a young woman with this condition and we are trying to get in touch with him to see if he thinks he can help her.
Thanks,
Wendy

Absolutely, Wendy - both requests for healing and prayers of thanksgiving, that she has the less severe condition.

Wendy .....
It always wrenches my heart when I read of babies having such major health issues ..... just not fair.

Wendy,
Lots of prayers and healing thoughts for your niece. One of our neighbors in California was a lovely young woman who was also born without irises. She moved to our neighborhood when she was in middle school and thrived in all the things she did. I remember when she was young she always wore sunglasses and had vision coach. Over the past few years, she had surgery on her eyes that improved her vision. We haven't kept in touch with her family since we moved, but if Lauren Marie's parents would like to get in touch with her, I would be happy to make that connection.

It is so hard to see a little one suffer. Hope you're able to connect with the doctor and thanks for keeping us up to date. It's nce that we can share all types of concerns on here. and it's great that we support and pray for each other.

Hi Wendy,
We hope the Doctors can help you niece, if not now because of her age, at least in the not too distant future.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to you, and your niece and her folks.

Hi Everyone,
Donnalynn, Rich and Scarlett, Phyl, Brenda, Cheryl, Clarice, Jeff, Kay ,Debbi, Catherine, Mickey and Pat and Keri, my thanks to all of you for your wonderful support too. It is nice that we can come here for support for things unrelated to our ANs. And as I said, you all seem to be pretty good at pulling on power of prayer. Lauren may have to live with this condition, but hopefully will retain her sight and possibly even have it improve. Time will tell.
Mandy, thank you for your offer as well as your prayers. I just spoke to talk to my niece's husband and told him about the young woman you spoke of (Lauren's dad) and he is going to have her call me later. He thought getting in touch with this young woman would be great! A question, do you know if is this the same young woman who appeared on with Dr. Assil from the Assil Eye Institute on Extra a few days ago? If you former neighbor is yet another person who was able to see improvement from this disorder, that would be even better news!
My deepest thanks to all of you,
Wendy
