New Facial Symptoms

Soundy:
I left hospital with no facial symptoms...well my tongue doesn't feel just right ... but other than
that things were fine ... last night I slid of my pillows that keep me from being completely flat...
I have learned that if I lay too flat I get swelling around incision and pain...

This morning my face was tingly on that side and my eye was twitching ... I gave it time and
it didn't stop... as day wore on my lower lip began to twitch and I have to make a concentrated
effort to get right eye to open... I dribble when I drink so have started using straws

I called my surgeon and he said as swelling went down things would
subside... I am now having swallowing difficulty which I know can be a side effect... he told me to
give it a day or two before calling back...

I don't guess I have a question just voicing frustration...17 days out and other than where they
harvested belly fat and now this I have done better than they predicted for me...

Hi Soundy - I have read where some people had no facial symptoms like you, then did - everything went back to normal for them - hang in there !!    Nancy

Soundy:
Mouth twitch has stopped but eye is worse... first it wouldn't open and now  it has decided it
doesn't want to stay closed... I put artificial tears in it last night and a gauze pad and bandaid
over it to keep it from drying out while I slept ... I lay down for a nap yesterday and woke up with
it so dry it hurt... my kids woke me because it was about half open and thay say it was
freaking them out ... :) they are so sweet... they took pictures of it before waking me

I am going to call in a bit to see if the doctor can order something to help with drying and just wait
things out...

Hi Soundy - Sorry you're having a bad time with it - eye lubricant works best - I use Refresh PM lubricant about every 2 hours.  You may be able to get away with thicker eye drops like Systane (since I have facial paralysis, eye drops don't work for me, not strong enough).
Until your eye returns to normal (I hope sooner than later), for sleep you might want to try using saran wrap & taping it around your eye area to form a moisture chamber - cut a square of saran wrap to fit just over the eyebrow & around to below the lower lid & tape it all around to seal.  In the morning you'll see little moisture beads.  It's a PIA to do but works like a charm.    Wishing you continued healing, Nancy

Thanks for info... I am planning a shopping trip to look for something stronger
than drops as soon as my crew get up...
