CrazyRockerDude Paul and I spoke earlier and are waiting now for update. If I don't hear anything in next hour (currently 8pm EST), will call ICU Nurses station and basically "tell" them that scallywags and wenches will be taking those on the plank if we don't get an update.
Will advise shortly.

UPDATE
Ok, just spoke to the nurse's station. Katie is out of surgery and recovery and in her room.  They wouldn't disclose info to me as I'm not family (heck, I even tried to convince them but it didn't work, those tarts!), but.... they are going to deliver a message to Katie when she is alert... from all of the "pirates and wenches, who send LOTS of love and that we are so very proud of her, from the ANA gang"
So, have spoken to Paul and and as we learn more, we'll pass along. ÂÂ
-
Thank you Phyl !! - KATIE IS A POSTIE!!!!!! This AN family rocks!!
-
Thank God, She got through the surgery Ok. Will be glad this time next week when the worst of the immediate post op is behind her a bit. As you all know, we can all relate to just how horrible she feels at this moment.
Just demand the drugs katie. we know the've got 'em, make 'em give 'em to ya, or they'll haveta walk the plank!

Katie's Carepage has been updated by her husband.... surgery was over 10 hrs, AN a bit intertwined but she's doing ok.. facial nerve function as of now looks good. Dr. Barker (neuro) feels confident that all is well, and they are hoping to shift her from ICU to reg. room tomorrow.

First couple weeks was hard for me .. I could hardly walk ... but it does get better .. if it was not for a my crooked smile - you would not know anything was ever wrong ...

Wonderful news! And she is soooo lucky to have her facial nerve intact. Good for you Katie!

waiting on update from her scallywag today.. he was rather exhausted last night (at midnight, no less) after such a LONG day/ordeal. he is delivering another Pirate message to her (I had to explain the whole thing to him as he didn't understand the msg at the nurses station, but he did note that katie was a little alert when she got the original msg and she knew what it meant! :) )... so, another pirate msg to our girl in sickbay.
More to come as I hear more.....

As of 4:20pm today, Katie's still in ICU. She should be out by tomorrow, in a regular room.

Home already. Good for you. Take it SLow and easy. Remember, let everyone who wants to, help you in any way. You really need to take care of yourself right now. I bet your boys were happy to see mommy. My kids were so freaked out while I was in the hospital. The power of prayer does wonders.
be good to yourself, no housework for a really l o n g time. Remember, milk it as long as you can. he he he he

Believe me, I'm doin' nuttin! Today was not a great day, and I'm just getting out of bed for the first time. These narcotics have some nasty side effects! Yoowza!

Katie, I know it is probably difficult to post, but how are your kids doing with all this? My grandkids are about 6 months younger each and they are quite a handfull for their Ma. I hope they, and you(!) are coping well.

The boys are better now that the big, scary head dressing is off. Neither of them will come up to me for hugs and kisses yet :( but in some ways that's good to minimize my jostling around. But I do miss snuggling them. Sigh.
They are in excellent care under the watchful eyes of my husband and mother, though, and I can hear them traipsing through the houe which is nice.
I'm been off the narcotics for 24 hours now and feel so much better!!! Now I just need to anil down the exact regimen of meds to completely keep the pain away...
Katie
-
The thing I found with post-op pain is to not let it get really bad and then try to get rid of it--find a med, mine was advil, (ibuprophen) and stick to a schedule. Once pain is really bad it's harder to get rid of than if you let it get midly bad. Also never take a pain med without food--I kept a box of wheat crackers in my room. Talk to your doc about the Advil dosage or any other OTC. The dosage on the package may differ than what your doc says you can take. Just a tip.

Awe Katie - I feel for you and can't wait until you get to love on your babies again!!!!

Hi Katie:
I'm so glad you are on the mend and having a normal recovery. Didn't it feel great to get the bandage off? Did it hurt to wash your hair? I remember my scalp being so tender from my hair being smashed down willy nilly under that bandage. What a relief to get that thing offa my head!! When do you go back to get your stitches out?
Heads up my friend, you are doing great. Move slow and lay low, they say.

OMG, my scalp is sooooo itchy and tender! I feel like I have two month's worth of dandruff to scrub off (sorry for the gross image! LOL!) My mother also says I have razor burn where I was shaved, so that's itchy and irritating, and the points where the head attachment were screwed in (one on my forehead, two in back) are very bruised and tender. So, yea, it's hard to lie down and get comfortable right now! But I have fath that this part will be over soon.
And as long as I take my Advil on schedule and don't let it wear off, I don't even have the headaches. Pretty great, I think.
As far as stitches go, they've coming out next week (those itch, too!) but there's some confusion about it. McKenna thinks he's taking them out on Monday; Barker thinks he is on Tuesday. My hubby has the task of straightening that out tomorrow.

Katie,
"She'll be right mate"
If the pain starts - try going down to World market and get some Tim Tams.

Katie:
The itchy stuff will be all over a few days after the stitches come out. It takes a few days for the little scabs to go away but then you are home free. I had a little razor burn too but that was gone a few days after the pressure bandage came off.
Congrats on the no headaches to speak of. I was extremely lucky that way too but boy did I have neck spasms for a few days. I guess 8.5 hours is too long to have your head cocked in one position - a little Valium took care of that problem.
Best of luck Katie, Kathy

Hi Katie....my scar still itches....I had some of the sub stitches work their way out, which sometimes happens, and they really itched!!! My doctor reccomended Alieve post narcotics for pain and I found it worked well...and if I was having a bad day I just took 1/2 a narcotic. You're doing great so far and keep up the good work girlie!!!!
