Title: Inspiring article on life after an AN
Post by: CHD63 on April 15, 2010, 03:03:24 pm
Just wanted to share an article about a fellow ANer, who has found an exciting new life after being diagnosed and treated for an acoustic neuroma.  She gave me her permission to put this link on here.  Enjoy.

Clarice ~

Excellent article about January Johnson Wolfe and her work with children's dance theater following her AN surgery.  This is the kind of positive, 'shifting gears' attitude I wish all post-op/radiation patients that have overcome whatever deficits they carry, could have.  Thanks for posting it.

Just came home from January's absolutely precious dance production of her new children's book, "Chasing Butterflies Meeting Violet."  It played to an SRO crowd of around 500 seats.  I am once again inspired by what she has done, in spite of a very rocky recovery from surgery to remove a large AN three years ago.

I moan and groan sometimes about side effects ... but I have tried to shift gears and charge forward ... I can no longer sub at school alot due to fatigue but can volunteer for things that I can pick and leave if need be ... some friends and family would have me in a corner twiddling my thumbs ...but shifting gears has saved some of my sanity

thanks for article

Actually January was an established dance instructor in the area long before her AN was diagnosed.  The AN just has altered the course of her career(s).  A shining example of how to redirect the gifts we are all given, when one pathway becomes diverted.

She was the first AN patient I talked with following my diagnosis and she was soooooo encouraging, even though she was struggling herself at the time.

I am still inspired and hope others can be inspired, as well.

Clarice,
Thank you for sharing! I had read this a couple of weeks ago. I haven't been on in a while to comment.

Pat .....

I am sorry you missed the online article in one of our local daily papers.  Apparently they only keep articles up for a couple of weeks.

January had several problems following the surgery for her AN removal three years ago and it is amazing how she did not let it get her down, but has redirected her creative energies in wonderful new ways.
