Post by: tenai98 on September 05, 2008, 08:04:08 am
Can someone state what is small, medium and large for ANs.  This is what I'm reading from the forum
Small....under 2cm
Medium ....between 2cm to 3.5cm
Large anything over 3.5cm......?????????????????

no question is considered dumb on this forum  :)

Your recap looks correct to me.

Believe me, I am the champ at dumb questions.  But I always seem to get smart answers.  My impression is that a medium size goes down to 1.5.  If that isn't the case, I was mis-led.

like lots of things AN, it probably depends somewhat on the doctor.

My AN was originally 1.5 cm and I was told it was considered "small to medium".

I was also told that 2 or 2.5 cm is generally the point where docs start to think that radiation isn't a good idea - but I have heard of docs who say it's more like 3 cm.

Tenai98:

I also think your scale is basically correct, although the exact measurement threshold for determining the AN size category (small, medium, large) may vary a bit from doctor to doctor, as Jan indicated.  My 4.5 AN was termed 'very large' by my doctor.  I even heard the word 'huge' bandied about when I was having pre-op tests.  I decided to settle for 'large' and let it go at that.  :)
